As the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethovens birth approaches, and following a much-admired version of the Diabelli Variations (Alpha 386 Gramophone Editors Choice), Martin Helmchen has decided to record his complete piano concertos in the company of musical partners with whom he has a special affinity, Andrew Manze and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

After her acclaimed complete recording of Beethoven's piano sonatas, Mari Kodama returns with a programme consisting of Beethoven string quartets transcribed for piano by Saint-Saëns, Mussorgsky and Balakirev, as well as Beethoven's variations on the finale of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet.

Taking their name from a Thelonious Monk quote, I Like To Sleep are three young Norwegian musicians, all 22 years old. Nicolas and Øyvind first met in high school in Trondheim before they joined up with Amund in a youth big band. Ryan Innes from Season 4 The Voice dropped an eight-song album “What I’m Looking For” on Friday, just in time for his Monday night appearance on NBC’s Songland. Ryan will be one of four songwriters featured on The Season 2 premiere. As for the new album, it follows 2018’s “The Inbetween” as Ryan’s second major project since The Voice. And it’s an impressive collection of songs. Tracks especially worth a listen include the celebratory “Born To Win” and the wonderfully raucous “I Got It.” The title track is also a standout.

Northern California’s Alec Lytle & Them Rounders premiere a new music video for single, “The Mountain.” The intimate video central to his new album, The Remains of Sunday, out April 17. This album is highly personal to Lytle after the loss of his mother and older sister. Of the many concepts tied to the record, “The Mountain” is an ode to his beloved redwood forest home.

Having an utommusical starting point is often grateful for creativity when composing. On this album, Erik Dahl has taken inspiration from Ursula Le Guins the left hand of darkness, a 1969 science fiction classic.
