Coltrane is a 1962 studio album by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane (do not confuse with same title 1957 album). Francis Davis of The Village Voice felt that, apart from the "modal, three-quarter time novelty hit "The Inch Worm", consumers should buy the album for the gorgeous "Soul Eyes" and a shattering 'Out of This World'." The composition "Tunji" was written by Coltrane in dedication to the Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji.

His trio members on this session are Art Davis on bass and Elvin Jones on drums, all three working outside the confines of John Coltrane's quartet. Four of the six songs on this recording are Tyner originals; Effendi, the lovely ballad Sunset and the title tune have all been called "standout pieces" by JazzTimes.com.

"The John Coltrane Quartet Plays" (full title "The John Coltrane Quartet Plays Chim Chim Cheree, Song of Praise, Nature Boy, Brazilia") is an album by jazz musician John Coltrane, recorded in February and May 1965, shortly after the release of "A Love Supreme". All About Jazz noted that "all through this recording the intensity has been turned up a notch since A Love Supreme, the immediately preceding quartet recording… The music is often arresting and moving, but it certainly does seem as if the calm attainment of A Love Supreme has somehow been broken". And called the album "great music from a great musician" & "an invaluable record of a man struggling to attain to greater clarity of vision."

"Lush Life" was originally recorded in 1967 but was not released until 1980 in Japan under the title "Sweet Slumber", due to the success of Donaldson's album "Alligator Bogaloo" (also recorded in 1967). Featuring musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Garnett Brown, Jerry Dodgion, Wayne Shorter, Pepper Adams, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter and Al Harewood, the album was very well-received when it finally was released.

McCoy Tyner with Stanley Clarke and Al Foster is an album by McCoy Tyner released on the Telarc label in 2000. It was recorded in April 1999 and features performances of by Tyner with Stanley Clarke and Al Foster. The Allmusic review by Richard S. Ginell states that "This is Tyner reaffirming most of his strengths: the massive tone quality, the two-handed control over the entire keyboard, and the generally uplifting attitude conveyed through the shape of his melodic invention".

Originally recorded in 1965, "Soothsayer" might be one of those underrated classics that you only know about. Recorded with a superb line up and featuring powerful and emotional interplay between Shorter and the rest of sextet, "Soothsayer" is a magical session not to be missed. “Angola” and the title track feature some bombastic sections from Shorter, Williams and Hubbard. While “Lady Day” is a lovely and romantic tribute to Billie Holiday executed with sublime musicianship. "Soothsayer" was one of a series of albums Shorter had recorded during a highly prolific period in the mid-sixties. Along with Shorter playing in Miles Davis’ group and various other factors, The album's official release didn't happen until the late '70s. But it is still considered an excellent document of Wayne Shorter immense vision and creativity.

My Favorite Things is the seventh studio album by jazz musician John Coltrane, released in 1961 on Atlantic Records. It was the first album to feature Coltrane playing soprano saxophone. Ballads is a jazz album by John Coltrane. It was recorded in December 1961 and 1962, and released on the Impulse! label in March 1963. Critic Gene Lees stated that the quartet had never played the tunes before. "They arrived with music-store sheet music of the songs" and just before the recordings, they "would discuss each tune, write out copies of the changes they'd use, semi-rehearse for a half hour and then do it". Each piece was recorded in one take, except for "All or Nothing at All". In 2008, the album was a recipient of the Grammy Hall of Fame award.
