With its broad register and earthy timbre, the clarinet is a powerhouse of emotional expression. Fitting then, that composer Jenni Brandon chose the instrument to represent the raw beauty of the Pacific Coast. SONGS OF SEA AND STONE offers a collection of world premiere recordings for clarinet, capturing the awe-inspiring beauty of the west, from the Golden State to Baja California, where rugged mountains meet the sea, and everything in between.
Works for solo clarinet, clarinet duo, and clarinet and piano are capped off by Fin de la Tierra: Land’s End, a clarinet concerto inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the Baja California peninsula. Like a film by Jacques Cousteau, it embarks on a musical journey from the peninsula’s shores to the majestic depths of the Sea, exploring the rich landscape, otherworldly waters, and diverse ecosystem in a single movement.
