With that odd and somewhat juvenile title, you'd think it's going to be one of those initial-issue instant flops. On the the other hand, given Image Comics' current track record, what with The Walking Dead, Chew, The Viking, King City, et al., which I daresay puts Image ahead of Vertigo so far in the area of alternatives to the superhero genre (I have to admit I'm biased--the first three titles just mentioned are my top three choices for best ongoing series, in order), you'd mutter to yourself, hmm... perhaps it's worth a look. You'd better. For you won't regret it. Nor did IGN reviewer Richard George, who gave this first issue an "Impressive" 8.3 out of 10 rating. Writer AJ Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo together put on a dazzling display. Let's hope they can keep it up a la The Walking Dead, Chew or The Viking...

is an American comic book series written by John Layman with art by Rob Guillory and published by Image Comics. It centers around Tony Chu, a police detective who is "cibopathic," meaning he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. Chu gets appointed to the FDA, which, because of the illegalization of chicken, has now become the most powerful law-enforcement branch of the United States government. See any connections so far? Well, the first three issues of Chew have all sold out multiple printings with the first issue receiving four printings as well as being reprinted in black and white in . To say that critical reception has been mostly positive would be an understatement. Peer response however remains muted, probably because of sheer envy. IGN gave the first issue an "Incredible" 9.5 out of 10 and the three subsequent issues 9.0, 9.1 and 8.8 respectively. The current 5th and last issue in the initial story arc ghoulishly entitled "Taster's Choice" also got an "Outstanding" 9.0 from IGN. That's an average rating of 9.08 for the first five issues. Considering IGN's highbrow reviewer reputations (there is one there whose output I don't like, however, and I registered in IGN so I could politely tell him so), this is high praise indeed. For the record, I agree with IGN's editors.
