If a few breaks had come his way, David "Rock" Feinstein would have left his mark on the heavy metal masses a long time ago. As the leader of local New York rockers the Rods, Feinstein supplied vocals and guitar work to quite a few cult classic albums throughout the '80s. Not to mention a little-known fact: Feinstein's cousin was none other than Ronnie James Dio, and the two played together while both were members of Elf. And in 2010, Feinstein got around to issuing quite possibly his best solo effort yet, Bitten by the Beast. His roots with Dio continued to run deep up until the end (Dio passed away a few months before the release of Bitten by the Beast), as the album was one of the first to be released on Dio's newly formed label, Niji Entertainment, and even features a track with none other than Dio himself on vocals, the anthemic "Metal Will Never Die."

By 1968, Nina Simone was deeply entrenched in the Civil Rights movement, as well as enjoying considerable commercial success. Originally broadcast on WBGO-FM radio, and presented here together with background notes and images, this superb live set contains many of her best-known songs, offering a vivid snapshot of a legendary artist at the peak of her powers.

Psychotic Supper is the third studio album from the American rock band Tesla, released in 1991. The album was certified platinum by RIAA on November 5th, 1993. In 2005, Psychotic Supper was ranked number 475 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time. Psychotic Supper benefits from a more stripped-down production than The Great Radio Controversy, using fewer overdubs and thereby enhancing Tesla's bluesy, acoustic-tinged rock & roll. Going over the top was never what Tesla did best, and Psychotic Supper shows enough variation and occasional understatement to retain the listener's interest.

British blues-rock quartet Ten Years After originally consisted of Alvin Lee (born December 19, 1944, died March 6, 2013), guitar and vocals; Chick Churchill (born January 2, 1949), keyboards; Leo Lyons (born November 30, 1944) bass; and Ric Lee (born October 20, 1945), drums. The group was formed in 1967 and signed to Decca in England. Their first album was not a success, but their second, the live Undead (1968) containing "I'm Going Home," a six-minute blues workout by the fleet-fingered Alvin, hit the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Stonedhenge (1969) hit the U.K. Top Ten in early 1969. Ten Years After's U.S. breakthrough came as a result of their appearance at Woodstock, at which they played a nine-minute version of "I'm Going Home." Their next album, Ssssh, reached the U.S. Top 20, and Cricklewood Green, containing the hit single "Love Like a Man," reached number four. Watt completed the group's Decca contract, after which they signed with Columbia and moved in a more mainstream pop direction, typified by the gold-selling 1971 album A Space in Time and its Top 40 single, "I'd Love to Change the World."

Inspired by the raw power of the Stooges and the glam rock excess of the New York Dolls, Birmingham, England, native Dave Kusworth formed his first band (TV Eye) at the age of 16. Since then, the versatile singer/songwriter/guitarist has done time in the Hawks, Dogs D'Amour, the Jacobites (with ex-Swell Maps mastermind Nikki Sudden), the Bounty Hunters, and the Tenderhooks, as well as his own Dave Kusworth Group. His songs, gutter-bound tales of rock & roll heartache that bring to mind the Faces and the Rolling Stones, have been covered by Evan Dando and Mercury Rev and feted by the likes of Tom Waits, Chuck Prophet, and Peter Buck.

Following their previous two releases, theyve called their new album Running Man. We did not want to be as blatant as we used to be, saxophonist Christoph Irniger described the surprisingly multi-faceted development process of the trio documented in nine songs. If he, bassist Marco Blochlinger and drummer Chrigel Bosshard did it the hard way in the past, then that meant: Wild at any price, complicated and full of biting humor. Of course, these are all things that still have a certain value for us. But in the meantime, we do not have to show that we can play really difficult stuff In the meantime, we want one thing above all: finally to be authentic.

The Remains of the Day is a 1993 British-American drama film adapted from the Booker Prize-winning 1989 novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film was directed by James Ivory and produced by Ismail Merchant, Mike Nichols, and John Calley. It stars Anthony Hopkins as Stevens and Emma Thompson as Miss Kenton, with James Fox, Christopher Reeve, and Hugh Grant in supporting roles. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (for Hopkins) and Best Actress (for Thompson). In 1999, the British Film Institute ranked The Remains of the Day the 64th greatest British film of the 20th century. The original score was composed by Richard Robbins. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score, but lost to Schindler's List.

This live date captures Hammond organ master Jimmy Smith, guitarist George Benson, and drummer Donald Bailey performing in 1968 for a fun-loving crowd at an intimate club in Atlanta, Georgia. As per usual with Smith, the fare is bluesy soul-jazz par excellence, with a warm feeling reminiscent of Sunday church meetings and backyard barbecues. But where many of Smith's albums pack a funky wallop suitable for dancefloor workouts, The Boss hangs back a bit, grooving smoothly along blues progressions that allow Benson and Smith to stretch out. The trio setting abets the reserved vibe here; there is an almost chamber-jazz feel at times, as Smith and Benson trade leads, while Bailey keeps the ship steady…

J.S. Bach's six Cello Suites are most frequently heard as they were written, though these beloved works are no longer the exclusive domain of cellists, because they have been increasingly arranged for other instruments, especially the viola. On this hybrid SACD from BIS, violist Maxim Rysanov plays the Suites No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6, as arranged by Simon Rowland-Jones. Because the viola's tuning is an octave higher than the cello, the keys and much of the music remain the same, except for a few minor technical changes.

Widely regarded as his orchestral masterpiece, Maurice Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé was one of the most sumptuous scores written for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, and though it is most often performed as a concert piece today, it is well-loved for its gorgeous melodies, lush harmonies, and atmospheric tone colors. Yet most listeners are only familiar with the second of two suites Ravel extracted from the score, so they may not know the sweep and splendor of the work as a whole.

Founded in 2012, Quebec based act Universe Effects perform an epic and theatrical style of progressive metal with influences pertaining to bands such as Dream Theater and Rush but also incorporating certain aspects of groups such as Porcupine Tree into their overall sound. Beginning as an instrumental outfit consisting of Gabriel Cyr on guitar, Francis Gregory on keyboards, Philippe Pouliot on drums and Dominic Tapin-Brousseau on bass, the band's chemistry immediately gelled, and the desire for a vocalist eventually resulted after numerous auditions with the addition of Antoine Gabriel Valley into the fold, who also performs acoustic guitar. After two years of writing and practicing, the act recorded their first full length album entitled ''In The Haze That Surrounds Us'', which was released in February of 2015…

Sinatra left Capitol in 1960 to start his own record label, Reprise Records, and released a string of successful albums. In 1965, he recorded the retrospective September of My Years and starred in the Emmy-winning television special Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music. After releasing Sinatra at the Sands, recorded at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Vegas with frequent collaborator Count Basie in early 1966, the following year he recorded one of his most famous collaborations with Tom Jobim, the album Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was followed by 1968's Francis A. & Edward K. with Duke Ellington.

Formed in 1989 by vocalist / bass player Johnny Hedlund, Unleashed have been delivering supreme death metal from day one. Dealing with Viking traditions and values, and honing their craft, they have become extreme metal pioneers, musically and lyrically, inspiring legions of other bands with their sound.
