The In Concert DVD series has spotlighted countless artists recorded live for the German TV show Ohne Filter, and in 2002, it was New York City blues guitarist Popa Chubby's turn to get the In Concert treatment. Backed by a rhythm section comprised of bassist Dave Hamburger and drummer John DiGiulio, the trio hands in a fine hour-long, eight-track performance, recorded on April 3, 1997. Popa Chubby's knack for penning fiery chromatic guitar riffs is evidenced by such tracks as "Trail O' Tears" and "Caffeine and Nicotine," while additional highlights include the up-tempo "Dance the Night Away" and "Angel on my Shoulder," the latter of which showcases both Chubby's guitar skills and soulful vocals. The Popa Chubby edition of In Concert is recommended to fans of modern day, gritty blues-rock.
