Still doing what he does best, Chris Jeffs aka Cylob shifts to a new alter ego for the latest release on his homegrown 'tronica imprint Cylob Industries. 'Ambient News' is the more personably melodic and laidback side of his musical personality, leaving the dancefloor efforts aside for fourteen tracks of kosmiche styled experimentation. It's all recognisably Cylobian, only never feels the need to go full pelt down the wrong side of the road, preferring to concentrate on Cluster-esque minor key melodies and that peculiar characteristic of Rephlex eccentricity shared by AFX, Ovuca and co, or even the haunted themes of the Ghost box and Trunk imprints. 'Am I Almost There' incants the childish title with an unnervingly strange effect to sound like some Arthur Russell offcut and little ditties like 'After The Flohmarkt' add guitar to the usual electronics with hugely successful results. Recommended.
