This CD contains the first edition the only recording of Beethoven's Sonatas 3, 5 and 9 for piano and violin, performed by two great musicians Emil Gilels and Leonid Kogan at the concert in Leningrad in 1964. It was the time when the world famous musicians showed their flowering art. Maximum of emotions, interesting manner of playing, richness of sound, sense of time and style — all this is easily felt when listening the recording.
Rebellious spirit of Beethoven and his internal power were dear to hearts of both performers. It is notable that Gilels as well as Kogan played works by their beloved composer several days before their deaths. Though each of musicians had his own artistic character and essential difference of musicianship the recording represents their integral approach to the form of Sonatas by German genius and the author's directions were observed with utmost accuracy.
