Look At What You Gettin’ is the recording from the prolific soul/blues legend Bobby Rush. Louisiana born, Rush moved to Chicago as a teenager where he learned the blues and performed in bands with Freddie King, Luther Allison and Earl Hooker. Based out of Mississippi since the early 80’s, Rush is well known for both his double entendre filled live shows as well as a steady stream of recordings released on numerous labels. This is his 6th recording on his own Deep Rush label.Tracklist:
Stylistically, this album covers a mix of blues, R&B and funk. Rush likes to call his music Folk-Funk. “Another Kind of Fool” opens the disc and has a rather slow, plodding feel to it which is not helped by what sounds to be programmed drums. Rush finds his groove on the second tune “Ain’t No Love Like My Baby’s Love”. The next tune “Let Me Love You” is in a vein similar to Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle”. “3 Women” finds Rush mining familiar lyrical territory singing about his woman, his girlfriend and his wife. “She’s Fine” is a straight forward blues featuring Rush on harmonica. Howling Wolf’s “Killing Floor” theme gets a funk update on “I Should Have Left You”. The album closes with the Junior Parker influenced “Train and My Hound Dog”.
