Quintorigo - English Garden (2011)

Tornano sulle scene musicali i magici Quintorigo con un disco che segna un'ulteriore, importante scommessa nella loro affascinante e sempre cangiante carriera.
La "factory" Quintorigo si è rimessa dunque di nuovo al lavoro: dopo la recente, travolgente tournée del Play Mingus, dopo aver rimasticato il jazz di uno dei grandi pitecantropi eretti e dopo aver vinto il Top Jazz nel 2009 come miglior formazione jazz dell'anno, per il nuovo progetto la band ha deciso di rimodellare la propria personale idea di ital-rock, componendo un disco completamente in lingua inglese e chiedendo ad una delle attrici/cantanti icone del momento, Juliette Lewis, di suggellare con la sua unica e sensuale voce ad alcuni brani del loro nuovo album, English Garden.

Un disco che già dal titolo rivela le ambizioni della band. Il giardino inglese rappresenta per la factory-Quintorigo un simbolo di convivenza di opposti, un portentoso gioco di equilibri, in cui il selvaggio si bilancia con il regolare, l'ameno con il malinconico, il maestoso con l'elegante, un luogo misterioso che si lascia mano mano scoprire senza rivelarsi con una chiara visione d'insieme.
English Garden simboleggia un ritorno all'attitudine istintiva e viscerale del rock degli esordi della band. Quel qualcosa di ancestrale che tutti i musicisti dopo una lunga carriera dovrebbero avere sempre il coraggio di riprendere in mano e tornare a farci i conti. Per rivederlo, stravolgerlo e rimettersi in gioco ancora una volta.

E questa attitudine viene espressa con gli strumenti di sempre: il sassofono di Valentino, il violoncello di Gionata, il violino di Andrea, il contrabbasso di Stefano. Strumenti classici (mal)trattati come non mai, sfibrati e trasformati con potente energia; filtrati e modificati con mirabolanti giochi di suoni da una moderna sensibilità e sparati all'unisono verso risultati che sanno di sperimentazione, di portentoso rock'n roll, a tratti di jazz, di soul e di quella perversa e salutare attitudine punk/blues che non hanno mai perso. Quella voglia di urlare in musica, di amalgamare la dolcezza con la rabbia e la ruvidezza delle origini.

E poi c'è la voce di Luca Sapio, il nuovo arrivato che mette il suggello di rango, autore di tutti i brani insieme al resto della band, come nelle migliori factory musicali. Una voce che diventa a tratti un vero e proprio strumento, che gratta le corde vocali come un serpente accarezza le sue stesse spire, e che interpreta appieno la voglia dei Quintorigo di uscire fuori dall'Italia ed andarsene finalmente a spasso per il mondo.

English Garden infatti arriverà presto anche all'estero. Partendo dalla Romagna, da quella via Emilia che in fondo può condurre da qualunque parte, basta percorrerla e ti porta lontano: dall'attitudine popolare ed orchestrale fino alle propaggini della più moderna downtown metropolitana. Come in questo mirabolante e stupefacente album. Che non è mai lo stesso, che passa da episodi dolcissimi a rapinose ventate di furia musicale, da sospensioni bucoliche a momenti di avanspettacolo, da taglienti staffilate di archi e urla di sassofoni bruciati, fino alle risate erotico/sataniche di Juliette Lewis in Lies! e How does it feel?.

They return to the music scene with the magical Quintorigo a disc that marks another important challenge in their fascinating and ever-changing career.
The "factory" Quintorigo was therefore called back to work after the recent tour of the overwhelming Play Mingus, after having chewed on one of the great jazz pithecanthropus erected, and after winning the Top Jazz in 2009 as the best band of jazz ' year, for the new project the band has decided to remodel their own personal idea of Italy-rock, forming a disc completely in English and asking one of the singer / actress icons of the moment, Juliette Lewis, to seal with its unique and sensual voice to some songs from their new album, Inglese Garden.

A record that from the title reveals the ambitions of the band. The English garden is the factory-Quintorigo a symbol of coexistence of opposites, a marvelous balancing act, in which the savage is balanced with the smooth, the pleasant with the melancholy, the majestic with the elegant, a mysterious place that is left hand turn hand out without a clear overview.
Inglese Garden symbolizes a return to the attitude of instinctive and visceral rock of the early years of the band. That ancestral something that all musicians after a long career should always have the courage to take up and return us to the accounts. To see him again, and twist back on their game again.

And this attitude is expressed with instruments of all time: the saxophone Valentino, Jonathan's cello, violin, Andrea, bass Stephen.
