MUSIC FICTION is the impressive, full-length debut by DJ/producer Rithma. After a series of well-received singles and a rep built up from his energetic sets at clubs and parties, Rithma makes good on his promise by dropping an album packed with mesmerizing rhythms, jazzy samples, low-key experimental collage and sampling, and a warmly inviting atmosphere. In fact, one of the more remarkable things about MUSIC FICTION is that, although it is a dance record in theory–the album draws heavily on house, acid jazz, and hip-hop elements–it is also quite mellow, and makes for an excellent headphone experience. So while the beats bump with funky, club-inflected bounce, the jazz snippets bring a heady touch of class and the ambient elements bathe it all in a relaxing glow.
