This album chronicles The Move's career from beginning to end. There is quite a way to travel, and several style changes, between ‘Night of Fear’ and ‘California Man’. Incidentally, one thing in common between these first and last hits is open derivativeness - the riff of ’Night of Fear’ was based on the ‘1812 Overture’, and ’California Man’ is one of the best tributes/pastiches (take your pick) of the rock'n'roll greats.
For Wood and Lynne, 1972 was another beginning - who would have guessed that one path would be Wizzard, and the other from the much-maligned ELO via Traveling Wilburys to producer of megastars - but it was the end point for The Move.
‘The Complete Singles Collection and More’ does have two album tracks not on its rival compilation: ‘Feel Too Good’, which strikes me as a studio jam, and ‘Hello Susie’, a slower and heavier arrangement which is a fascinating alternative to the Amen Corner’s hit version.
    ~ Bob Sherunkle

Don't be fooled by the front cover image of the group in "fashionable" sixties clothes - this is timeless music, on a par with anything The Beatles, The Doors or The Kinks released in this period (late 1960s). A highly recommended summary of the career of a great sixties pop/rock group, which of course went on to form the core of ELO in the 1970s. Electric Light Orchestra is also highly recommended, if you want to hear how this music might have developed if all the original members had remained together into the 1970s.
