Meditative music interspersed with catchy rhythms. Austrian composer Thomas Larcher’s piano music reminds both of Otte and Feldman, and at times of a playfully aggressive Prokofiev and heirs. For Larcher, combining simple melodic lines with more complex serial patterns is not impossible.
His collaboration with cello player and colleague composer Thomas Demenga guarantees some exciting moments in “Kraken”.
Born in 1963, Larcher is relatively young. I’m looking forward to his compositions to come.
