    At an old strawberry farm in the bayou of South Louisiana, six people, who barely like each other, decide to get together for an evening of group sex. Although the participants initially act casually about the affair, as the prospect of actually having to go through with it approaches, their true colors shine.

    I didn't expect to love this film. I went to a screening at the Austin film festival, ready for some lowbrow humor and hipster hijinks, but Cummings Farm turned out to be a very intelligent, frank, hilarious film, and one of the most convincingly awkward screen portrayals of sexual politics I've seen. Beck's script is great-scenes that start light and jokey crescendo into heartbreaking misunderstandings, and characters' very believable failures to connect and communicate manage to come off both as tragic and pretty damn funny. Not a moment of this film is boring, and the pacing matches the nervous energy of the characters as they worry themselves into the mood for an orgy. There's not a weak link in this cast; somehow these actors manage to engage our sympathy, despite the exaggerated flaws, instabilities–and in some cases, psychotic tendencies–of their characters.
