    The Alamo By Michael Burgan
    2009 | 48 Pages | ISBN: 1604135123 | PDF | 7,3 MB

The call to "Remember the Alamo!" summoned up courage in the Americans struggling to win Texas's independence from Mexico. When the men at the Alamo came face-to-face with the 2,000 Mexican troops attacking the fort in 1836, they knew they couldn't win the fight. Nevertheless, they were ready to die rather than give up their claim to independence. The Alamo traces the American settlement of Texas and the series of events that led up to this momentous battle.

    eighth blackbird

American composer Benjamin Broening (b. 1967) drew inspiration for the eight haunting pieces on this disc from the natural world in Estonia. The combinations of acoustical instruments and electronics are so deftly achieved that textures come and go with surprising enchantment and tension. The disc’s title comes from the virtuosic flute solo that evokes a conflicted environment. Eighth blackbird, the chamber ensemble founded at Oberlin College, play Broening’s collection to the expressive skies.

    English | 1980 | 184 Pages | ISBN: 0030570611 | PDF | 36,7 MB

“More than a quarter of a century ago a young Egyptian archaeologist, clearing a site just south of the Great Pyramid at Giza, broke through a massive slab of limestone to reveal a vault beneath his feet. For the first time in 4,500 years the sun’s rays were shining down on the timbers of a great papyriform ship, built for a king and then dismantled and buried here at the height of the Egyptian Old Kingdom. Astonishingly well preserved, it was by far the most ancient vessel ever to come to light.

    English | 2009-04-27 | ISBN: 0521886384 | 310 pages | PDF | 7,1 MB

This book recognizes groundwater flow as a fundamental geologic agent, and presents a wide-ranging and illustrated overview of its history, principles, scientific consequences and practical utilization. The author, one of the founding fathers of modern hydrogeology, highlights key interrelationships between seemingly disparate processes and systems by tracing them to a common root cause - gravity-driven groundwater flow. Numerous examples demonstrate practical applications in a diverse range of subjects, including land-use planning, environment protection, wetland ecology, agriculture, forestry, geotechnical engineering, nuclear-waste disposal, mineral and petroleum exploration, and geothermal heat flow.
