This show was the first of my mini-Italian tour, in Rovereto at an amazing venue called Smart Lab. The title comes from a conversation I had a few years ago with Pat Kane (singer with Hue And Cry, and amazing thinker) in which he introduced the whole notion of 'the aesthetics of care' - we were talking about what it means for the arts to be a caring profession, for us to make work that demonstrates care for our audience, that IS care for our audience.

This was my third and final gig in Italy this February. Organised by my dear friend Kev Cooke, who went to great lengths to get me a gig even though it was Carnival weekend (a fact that will become significant later!). He worked connections with the Casa Della Musica to get me a gig, with the Bill Lee Band opening the show (Kev plays bass in the Bill Lee Band, who are really really great).

Shimmering columns of light will guide you, a grand synesthesia riding on a kaleidoscope, oscillating between hushed moments, where sound unfolds the firmament, unfurled like a cloak upon the shoulders of the real world. The recordings on Oneness date from Jan, March and September 2008 and were born from a period of experimentation as Halsall first began to explore the music that would provide the inspiration for his spiritual jazz recordings Fletcher Moss Park and When the World Was One.

Today, Big Thief announce a late-2021 North American tour. In conjunction, they release Big Thief - Live at The Bunker Studio, as well as video footage of all the songs. The bulk of these recordings are culled from 2019’s widely praised Two Hands and U.F.O.F., additionally including ‘Black Diamonds’ from their earlier album Capacity. Directed by Marisa Gesualdi in November 2019, this collection was originally previewed with live videos of ‘Not’ and ‘Cattails’, but now the whole session is available to listen to and view.

Hafliði Hallgrímsson (b.1941) is widely regarded as Iceland's pre-eminent composer, as well as a highly accomplished cellist. He studied with Enrico Mainardi and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and was cellist with many leading chamber ensembles until devoting himself full time to composition in 1983.

The eight works in this album explore reflections on the eight planets of the solar system and the earths seven continents. Most bear echoes of traditional melodies originating from indigenous peoples. Largely composed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tanya Ekanayaka's passionate awareness of the connections and congruences between the past and present is reflected in her vision of harmonious co-existence.
