Let No Man Write My Epitaph was a 1960 Hollywood movie featuring Fitzgerald. The album hits at a depth of emotional understanding that critics often complained was missing in Ella's reading of jazz lyrics, and once again establishes her as one of the supreme interpreters of the Great American Songbook. Considered one of Ella's greatest recordings, she's backed on this 1960 release by pianist Paul Smith.

This early '60s studio session captures Ella Fitzgerald moving toward the smaller, more pointedly jazz-inflected ensembles that would shape her career in her final decades. Accompanied by quartet led by Lou Levy, the intimate setting, superb musicianship and stellar recording make it a favorite among jazz-oriented audiophiles. Not to be missed!

He is constantly collaborating with groups, including his own collective, Danketsu 10. These collaborations find him typically adding lyrical voicings through his woodwinds, predominantly the saxophone. On Resting in the Heart of Green Shade, Shiroishi goes solo, and does so with provocative aplomb.

Dance styles and rhythms are at the heart of his repertoire, from the spectacular Brazileira with which Milhaud concludes his theatrical Scaramouche, through Piazzolla’s refinement of tradition in his Tango-Études, to the Brazilian rhythms showcased in Villa-Lobos’s Fantasia. Paquito D’Rivera adapted his Invitación al Danzón especially for this recording, providing Sándor Rigó with space to demonstrate his brilliance in improvisation.

Vladimir Jurowski and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester continue their PENTATONE journey through the heights of German late-Romantic repertoire with a recording of Richard Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie.
