Accomplished blues man Darren Watson returns with a new release this month, a complete album of John Hiatt songs reinterpreted – Darren Watson Sings John Hiatt. Watson has been pushing out quality material for the best part of 40 years, beginning in the 80s as frontman of Chicago Smoke Shop (which supported the Robert Cray Band, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds), and continuing since the early 2000s as a solo artist with six albums released to great acclaim, including a bunch of NZ Music Award nominations.

The Contemporary Echo of a visionary pianist Miguel Ángel Acebo presents Scriabin Notebook, a new album released by IBS Classical, bridging the visionary world of Alexander Scriabin with contemporary Spanish musical creation. Recorded at the Auditorio Manuel de Falla in Granada, the album features works by Jesús Torres, José Manuel López López, José María Sánchez-Verdú, and Francisco Domínguez, alongside emblematic pieces by the Russian composer.

David Fray stands out as one of today’s most distinctive French pianists, widely acclaimed for his profound interpretations of Bach. This new album draws its core from L’Enfant oublié (2023), a theatrical project co-created with actress and director Chiara Muti, premiered at the artist’s own festival L’Offrande musicale, dedicated to disability awareness. It features masterpieces from Rameau to Scarlatti, including lesser-known composers like Royer, with a strong focus on Bach. The repertoire includes original keyboard works as well as piano transcriptions by legendary pianists such as Siloti, Kempff, Busoni, and Stradal.

Interlaced with Peter’s haunting flute and Ivar’s textured atmospheres, the results feel both like memory and dream: a misty October night, tender and searching, haunted yet luminous. This collaboration is a soundscape where calm and longing coexist, and where music itself becomes moonlight — fragile, mysterious, and full of quiet revelations.
