In 1990, to tie in with the film's boxoffice release, Epic Comics, the sometime creator-owned imprint of Marvel Comics, produced a four-issue adaptation of the film, which included significant differences from the finished movie, more closely related to Clive Barker's original script (the comic caption says, "adapted from Clive Barker's screenplay"). The comic book continued to run past the end of the movie, ultimately stretching to twenty five issues before it was canceled. The series ran from April, 1990 to March, 1993.
