The Doors is the debut album by the American rock band the Doors, recorded in 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders, Hollywood, California. The Doors was central to the progression of psychedelic rock, and has been critically acclaimed. In 2012 it was ranked number 42 in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest albums of all time.

Although admittedly a posthumous release, I was very surprised at the rather dismissive tenor of many of the reviews of this album to date.

As Nice As Mother Makes It
After two very robust but patchy albums the Nice adopted a slightly different approach to their third by exploiting a half live/half studio hybrid.

It is not possible to overestimate the Nice's importance to Progressive Rock. In their moment, they were prog and if the eye-opening debut Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack didn't show that, this dazzling follow-up did. Sure they're so old and dated you'd never put them on unless alone in the house.

Performed by Alarm Will Sound led by Alan Pierson, soprano Katherine Manley, and sean nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, the libretto draws from first-hand accounts by American humanitarian Asenath Nicholson. The Hunger "bears hearing and rehearing," said the Washington Post. "It is powerful, and it makes a statement."

Claire Huangci went from being "clearly a pianist to follow" (Gramophone Editor's Choice, September 2015) to the status of internationally established and acclaimed young pianist even before winning the Mozart Prize at the Concours Géza Anda in 2018. Following on from four successful solo albums – from arrangements of Russian ballet music through Scarlatti to Chopin's complete Nocturnes and all of Rachmaninoff's Preludes – she now releases her first orchestral disc with Berlin Classics. Together with the aspiring young South Korean conductor Shiyeon Sung and the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken she plays Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 and contrasts it with Paderewski's concerto.

Antoine Tamestit and his artistic partner Masato Suzuki, a soloist in the famous Bach Collegium Japan, have immersed themselves in Bach’s three sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord in order to give a sublime interpretation of them on the viola – both instruments use the same alto clef, even if the projection of the sound is entirely different. So this is no transcription, but leaves the artists in total freedom to rediscover with delight these all too rarely played masterpieces!

Although Dandrieu is best-known for his talents as an organist, his trio sonatas deserve a prominent position in the chamber music of the period. They show a stunning mastery of style and variety of characters. Dances overflowing with energy, mischievous and impetuous counterpoint between the three parts, movements with highly expressive Italianate suspensions, articulation, phrasing, rhythm, gentleness, passion – in a word, life. He published them under the title Premier Œuvre in 1705, when he was twenty-three years old, our own age when we first met and played these sonatas: Opus 1 was therefore a natural choice as the title for this album!’ say the members of Le Consort.
