At the age of 88, composer and legendary jazz musician Ahmad Jamal presents Ballades, an album that sees him returning to his roots in a transcendent journey. Jamal comes from the closely-knit club of the great masters of jazz. That is why, in the manner of Coltrane and Miles, he goes back to his past as a way to overcome it. At its heart, Ballades is a solo piano album - something Jamal has never done before (double-bass player James Cammack is featured on three tracks). The music is art in its purest form, ranging from the iconic ''Poinciana'' to the symbolic ''Marseille.'' Ballades is a new masterpiece in this artist's long and distinguished career.

Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mondo Cane) and renowned French composer Jean-Claude Vannier, who is perhaps best known for his work with Serge Gainsbourg, release Corpse Flower, a 12-song album featuring the song "On Top Of The World" "Jean-Claude and I met while working together on a Gainsbourg retrospective at the Hollywood Bowl in 2011," explains Patton. "We bonded immediately. I could see he had a dedication and attention to detail that was relentless so the respect I had for him in my mind was magnified in person.

For the recording of Real Street, singer/harmonica player Tad Robinson traveled to the birthplace of Southern soul: Memphis, Tennessee. There he teamed up with Memphis music legends, organist, Charles Hodges; bassist, Leroy Hodges; and the drummer, Howard Grimes, collectively known as the Hi Rhythm Section at Scott Bomar’s, Electraphonic Recording. The results are ten glorious tracks of blues-infused and passionate soul music. Throughout six originals and four reimagined covers, Robinson’s singing has never been so focused and fluent in the language of the blues and his subtle harmonica playing adds just the right spice to the mix.

Also, Ahmad Jamal's production, which provides a telepathic rhythm (thanks to drummer Herlin Riley and double bass player James Cammack), symbolizes a wonderful transition: between two generations of musicians, between two centuries, and also between two continents, the West and the East, all this under the loving gaze of their elders, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.
