On Jul 31, 2007, the White Stripes played their final show. The duo was touring behind what would be their final album as a group (2007’s Icky Thump) and performed a 20-song, 4-encore set at the Southaven, Mississippi venue Snowden Grove. Now eight years after the band officially broke up, a recording of that final performance has made its way online, as Consequence of Sound points out.

These three musicians have known each other for years and make the choice to privilege interaction in the development of musical expression.

Gilmour made only 2 alums: about 6 years separate them. On this one, the keyboards are really modernized, despite there is an omnipresent accessible organ sound.

One of Britain's most successful and long lived avant-garde rock bands, Pink Floyd emerged relatively unsullied from the mire of mid-Sixties British psychedelic music as early experimenters with outer space concepts.

The subtitle of this SACD is "The Ultimate Audio Experience". But open the notes, and you discover that all the tracks save one are from 44, 48, and 96KHz PCM sample original sources. There are some great performances here –- forever trapped in mid-definition resolution. They date from 1993 to 2003, a surprising number of them being recorded in 2001-2003, after DSD recording was available. In listening to this SACD, I was beginning to have doubts about the SACD format until I noticed the sources in the liner notes.

Michèl Yost, a Parisian by birth, was a famous French clarinet virtuoso in his time. He is regarded as one of France’s first important clarinetists and as the cofounder of the French school of clarinet playing and gained renown beyond France’s borders already during his lifetime. Along with clarinet chamber music and a collection of études that is no longer extant, we know of fourteen clarinet concertos by Yost, some of which he composed in collaboration with the German composer and Paris resident Johann Christoph Vogel.
