Pavel Kolesnikov’s deep affinity with the music of Chopin is once again on display: immaculate performances—and an intelligently planned recital, which builds towards the epic F minor Fantasy—can only enhance the listener’s appreciation of this much-loved repertoire.

Montserrat Caballé was born in Barcelona on 12th April 1933. Caballé studied at the prestigious Liceu Conservatory, graduating in 1954.

With this album of works by Schoenberg, Zemlinsky and Webern – key figures in Vienna’s musical life in the early 20th century – the Quatuor Arod honours the woman who became Arnold Schoenberg’s wife in 1901. Mathilde was Zemlinsky’s sister and the dedicatee of her husband’s String Quartet No 2, an innovative work in both its tonal language and its integration of a soprano – here Elsa Dreisig. It was completed in the summer of 1908, a tumultuous period in the Schoenbergs’ marriage.

Back on Indiana Avenue: The Carroll DeCamp Recordings is a collection of previously-issued recordings from jazz guitar legend Wes Montgomery captured live and in studio in his hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana in the mid-to-late 1950's by renowned arranger/pianist Carroll DeCamp (Stan Kenton, Les Elgart), who played and hung out with Wes around that time.

Any band would have been hard-pressed to follow the success of a multi-platinum album with another one of equal or higher quality both critically and commercially. Needless to say, that's exactly what David Coverdale and Whitesnake were faced with when it came time to record 1989's Slip of the Tongue, the follow-up to their 1987 smash self-titled LP. To complicate matters, Coverdale lost Irish guitarist Vivian Campbell during pre-recording sessions due to artistic differences, and his songwriting partner and lead guitarist, Adrian Vandenberg, injured himself to the degree that he couldn't play; he did some early work that made it on to the final album. Coverdale, faced with a quickly approaching deadline and pressure from management and the label finally recruited former Frank Zappa guitarist Steve Vai to fill the chair. Commercially, Slip of the Tongue was an unqualified success.

Chick Corea's 3-CD boxed set Trilogy was released in 2014, garnering International acclaim and two Grammys (Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz solo). The stunning collaboration between Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Brian Blade left many critics, musicians and fans awestruck.

Joshua Redman and Brooklyn Rider's Sun on Sand is due October 4, 2019, on Nonesuch Records. The album comprises eight compositions from a suite by composer Patrick Zimmerli. Each piece in the suite, which premiered at London’s Wigmore Hall in 2014, represents a different expression of light. Bassist Scott Colley and drummer Satoshi Takeishi perform as well. Sun on Sand is available to pre-order from iTunes and the Nonesuch Store, where the album track “Between Dog and Wolf”—named for a French expression for dusk—may be downloaded immediately. Redman previously worked with Zimmerli when the latter created orchestral arrangements of Redman’s compositions for the 2013 Nonesuch album Walking Shadows.

In his new polyphonic folk songs, the songwriter combines hopeful hopes and mourning experiences, providing an opportunity to re-empathize, to regain one's self and regain courage. Grief can be very lonely. Can not we talk about it? Can we do that? And with whom? Daniel Green gives reason to think about funeral culture and shows that death does not have to be the end. Feelings, gratitude and attachment remain even after the loss of friends or relatives.

The trio around pianist Jan Alexander is constantly searching for the unknown within a familiar context. The three musicians use original compositions from the field of modern jazz as a starting point and framework for the new exploration of apparent realities.
