Singer-songwriter Frank Turner found himself in that situation last year, when Fat Mike of NOFX asked if he wanted to do a split covers album. Film composer and former Pop Will Eat Itself frontman Clint Mansell has released a track-for-track cover of Lou Reed's 1973 album Berlin, with help from friend and musician Clint Walsh. It was made as a tribute to Mansell's girlfriend Heather who died in 2014. "In ‘Levels Of Life’, author Julian Barnes lists the ‘lasts’ he shared with his wife before her death. The last film Heather and I watched together was the Julian Schnabel film of Lou Reed performing ‘Berlin' live at St Ann’s Warehouse, Brooklyn in 2006," Mansell writes in a statement about the album.

Los Angeles-based hard rock/heavy metal unit Alcatrazz was originally formed as a vehicle for vocalist Graham Bonnet, but became famous for introducing budding guitar heroes instead, namely Swedish phenom Yngwie J. Malmsteen and ex-Frank Zappa six-stringer Steve Vai. Emerging in 1983 with No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll, which featured the hit "Island in the Sun," the band peaked in 1985 with the release of their sophomore effort, Disturbing the Peace, which housed their second most well-known single, "God Blessed Video." The band issued one more studio LP, 1986's Dangerous Games, before ceasing operations the following year.

In the Psychedelic Furs' early days, the band and critics alike described their sound as "beautiful chaos". It was the swirling, barely-hinged yet strangely elegant result of a two-guitar, six-man lineup of musicians whose sense of style and attitude were far more polished than their technical aptitude. That was 40 years ago.

Violinist Regina Carter is a highly original soloist whose sophisticated technique and rich, lush tone took the jazz world by pleasant surprise when she arrived in New York from her native Detroit. And jazz fans weren't the only people who heard that mercurial quality in her playing: artists as diverse as Faith Evans, Elliot Sharp, and Mary J. Blige have employed her talents on their recordings, as has filmmaker Ken Burns on his soundtrack for The Civil War.

Twin sisters Georgina and Una McGeough who comprise Song Sung, grew up in Monaghan, a gnat's width away from the border with Northern Ireland, and since the past decade have been based out of New York. Via a mutual friend, the film-maker Seamus Hanrahan, Song Sung got a connection to David Holmes (Killing Eve, Noel Gallagher), and following their chance meeting in early 2016, spent three days holed up in Holmes' studio laying down the tracks for an album. They had been collaboratively bouncing tracks back and forth between New York and Belfast for a short period, with Holmes sending the arrangements and Song Sung writing the lyrics and vocal melodies.

Irish rock outfit the Coronas became a prominent force on the Dublin live circuit with their blend of contemporary indie rock. Debuting in 2007 with Heroes or Ghosts, their anthemic sound spread throughout their albums, including 2020's True Love Waits. Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 2003 by Danny O'Reilly (vocals, guitar), Graham Knox (bass), and Conor Egan (drums) after they met at college, the trio originally went by the name Kiros before adopting, Corona.
