The violinist Midori has been a celebrated performer for more than 35 years, this recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, complemented by his two Romances for violin and orchestra, marks the composer’s 250th birthday in December 2020. Midori plays with the Lucerne Festival Strings in a recording made in Switzerland shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic had caused the cancellation of a planned concert performance and international tour.

Molassess were beckoned to life as a commissioned performance for the 2019 edition of Roadburn Festival, five years after THE DEVIL’S BLOOD – a chaotic coterie of musical misfits lead by efficacious guitarist Selim Lemouchi – ended their fever dance. The invitation inspired new shoots of creativity to blossom where death had walked. THE DEVIL’S BLOOD’s supernal singer Farida Lemouchi formed new bonds with old cohorts Oeds Beydals, Job van de Zande, and Ron van Herpen (ASTROSONIQ), Bob Hogenelst (BIRTH OF JOY) and Matthijs Stronks (DONNERWETTER). Now, with the band’s first full length, MOLASSESS are setting out on a new path.

Metamorphosed comes out of the sessions that produced 2019’s Face Stabber. It may only be five tracks long, but it achieves a full album’s length with the help of the more than 23-minute epic “I Got a Lot”. In an interview with Henry Rollins, Dwyer explained that this kind of song, “Usually… takes place at the end of the planned recording. We have extra time and tape to lay down some deep cuts and long jams, etc., the fun part, really.”

Before is so titled because it supposedly hearkens back to Blake’s days as a wunderkind DJ/producer in the London club scene. That’s definitely true in a sense, but Before is also very much a product of Blake’s aftermath, matching its brisk dubstep and 2-step beats with all the studio savvy and songwriting acumen he’s accumulated over the course of the past decade. It doesn’t sound much like old-school abstract dance music James Blake to me, but it doesn’t really resemble new-school deconstructed balladeer James Blake either. It’s a new sound for him, and it’s exhilarating.

A unique transformation occurs the moment a lover lays eyes on your bedroom for the first time: the room is suddenly, involuntarily no longer your own. Your curated “you” is subject to the impressions of the other, and you try hard to adopt this filter yourself, wondering what information the objects and their position suggest about you. Noisy types HEALTH have announced details of a collaborative album. ‘DISCO 4:: PART I’ will be released on 16th October, and features their previously-shared tracks with Soccer Mommy, JPEGMAFIA, Xiu Xiu and more - plus new tracks, including one with 100 gecs, and a HEALTH song called ‘CYBERPUNK 2.0.2.0’. “In the past each HEALTH LP has been accompanied by a corresponding remix record,” say the band. “This time, despite being called DISCO 4 in the interest of continuity, we offer you a collection of original collaborations with artists we admire. Also, FUCK 2020.”

One of rock's greatest albums is the debut album by the Crickets and the only one featuring Buddy Holly released during his lifetime. The Chirping Crickets contains the group's number one single "That'll Be the Day" and its Top Ten hit "Oh, Boy!". Three months after the release of The Chirping Crickets came the self-titled 1958 classic. It was Buddy's last album released prior to the plane crash in Iowa that struck him down in 1959 at age 22. The album Buddy Holly features the Top Ten smash "Peggy Sue" plus several songs that went on to be standards: "I'm Gonna Love You Too", "Listen To Me", "Everyday", "Words of Love", and "Rave On".

Released in 1973, Crystal Silence heralded the beginning of a long and productive association between Gary Burton and Chick Corea, even leading to a Crystal Silence sequel in 2008. The popularity of their collaboration far exceeded expectations for interest in a band consisting solely of piano and vibraphone; in fact Crystal Silence has gone on to become one of the most successful titles in the ECM catalogue.
