Pendragon are an English neo-progressive rock band established in 1978 in Stroud, Gloucestershire as Zeus Pendragon by guitarist Nick Barrett. The Zeus was dropped before the band started recording as the members decided it was too long to look good on a t-shirt. There were a few personnel changes in the early days, but since 1986 the lineup has remained stable (apart from two changes on the drummer's stool) and the band is still active as of 2009.
This stunning disc includes the two long love duets from Act III of Siegfried and Act II of Tristan und Isolde; in Domingo and Voigt, Wagner's characters find powerful, vulnerable, almost transcendental exponents. Domingo's voice, of course, is no longer in the freshest bloom of youth: but if he is not the impossibly ideal 25-year-old Heldentenor about whom one fantasizes singing Siegfried, he brings an authority and sensitivity to the role that sweeps one away.
Like Mozart writing his Requiem, this live recording of Dvorak's Stabat Mater has taken on great significance being released in the weeks following the death at 55 of the conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli in May 2001.
It was to Bruno Walter that Mahler entrusted the score of his Ninth Symphony in the autumn of 1910, knowing that he himself would not live to conduct the premiere. Walter gave the premiere on June 26, 1912, in Vienna, and throughout his long career remained the work's greatest champion. He was 84 when he made this recording, and the reading he elicits from the Columbia Symphony is suffused with nostalgia, warmth, and deep sentiment. Here, a work of leave-taking is interpreted in the spirit of leave-taking, though the treatment is no less radiant and sincere for being somewhat detached.

This is a great recording of Rigoletto. Bruson is the best Rigoletto recorded, his voice is perfect for the role. He is much more believable than Milnes and I love his rich deep baritone. Gruberova is perhaps the best Gilda ever!
