Karajan's way with Mahler is smoother, less anguished or conflicted than many critics like, but he isn't glib or glossy–this is excellent, insightful conducting. I can't imagine why DG doesn't have more faith in this recording or why critics haven't discovered it. It's not as though Karajan is a hidden talent. After collecting Das Lieds from Rattle, Bernstein, Horenstein, Tennstedt, Kubelik, Giulini, Salonen, Sinopoli and Walter–the list goes on–I sitll rank this version almost as high as the Klemperer. Carnage Victory is the latest release from Germany's Sacred Steel. It is a fairly unremarkable mid-paced Heavy/Power Metal offering that occasionally drifts towards speedier Power Metal or displays a bit of NWOBHM influence. You've heard all the riffs before and singer Gerrit Mutz has a voice that seems OK at first, but started to grate on my nerves by the end of each listen. His Johnny Rotten-like warble sounds off-key, more often than not, and that bugs the hell out of me. Everything about Carnage Victory is just kind of blah, from the sound to the songs.

Presently researcher in Marseilles [Laboratoire de Mecanigue et d’Acoustique]. Music works for instruments. voice and computer. Scientitic and musicological articles. Received since 1963 numerous distinctions. among which the Ars Electronica Prize [1987], the Grand Prix National de Ia Musigue of France [1990]. the first prize for digital music [1981] the Euphonie d’Or [1992] and the Magisterium prize at the international Bourges competition, the gold medal of CNRS [1999].

Here are four tracks from one of the classic sessions of all time when a combination of giants gathered in Rudy Van Gelder's studio on Christmas Eve afternoon and early dark, 1954. With Thelonious Monk and three quarters of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Jackson, Heath, and Clarke) as his accomplices, Miles blends sophisticated harmonic knowledge with raw, spontaneous invention to produce extraordinary music. The two takes of "The Man I Love" are quite different within their basic similarity.
