Sepultura released their Third World Posse E.P., which centered around the smash single "Dead Embryonic Cells," whose controversial video had been famously banned by MTV for graphically depicting gas-mask-clad crucifixion victims. The band's frenzied cover of the Dead Kennedys' "Drug Me" was up next, and hinted at their rediscovery of the punk-rock ingredients, soon to be added to their follow-up album Chaos A.D.. And closing out the E.P. were three crushing live recordings of Sepultura crowd-pleasers: previous album single "Inner Self," old favorite "Troops of Doom" and the trusty Motorhead warhorse "Orgasmatron

Boundary crossing has become a part of musical life for classical and jazz musicians in recent years, opening ears and minds to sound worlds once jealously guarded by purist audiences and critics. The musical meeting of Emmanuel Pahud, one of the world’s most celebrated classical flute players, with acclaimed jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson has created a fresh, beguiling take on melodies originally conceived for the formal setting of the concert hall or recital room.

Although somewhat underrated, Richie Beirach is a consistently inventive pianist whose ability to play both free and with lyricism makes him an original. After studying classical piano, Beirach switched to jazz. He studied at Berklee and the Manhattan School of Music, and took lessons with Stan Getz, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette. Beirach played electric piano while with Dave Liebman's Lookout Farm in 1974, but afterward mostly stuck to acoustic piano. He teamed up with Liebman on many occasions (including the early-'80s group Quest) and has recorded frequently since the '80s. Among his many jobs as a sideman were important stints with Getz, Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie, and Chet Baker, and Beirach has played music ranging from hard bop to totally free. Cosmic disco producer Prins Thomas will release a self-titled album next month on his own Full Pupp imprint.

The record will be Thomas' first solo album, but the Norwegian producer is no stranger to the long-player. Since 2005 he's released two albums with Lindstrom—Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and II—and last year mixed an installment for the Live at Robert Johnson series. Thomas is perhaps best known for his long, spaced out remixes, such as his recent take on LCD Soundsystem's 45:33.

Thomas' new record consists of seven epic, kraut-rock inspired disco tracks, most of which clock in somewhere past the ten-minute mark. The album was recorded live by Thomas at his studio in Olso, with brief guest appearances by Lindstrom (on keyboards) and Todd Terje (on trumpet).
