Le Bal: Social Dances in the Early Baroque - I Ciarlatani
Michael Praetorius, Jacques Cordier, Étienne Nau, Jacques Mangeant (ed.) & Anon.

    Classical, Baroque | 1 CD | EAC | FLAC, CUE, LOG | Scans | 381 MB | RS
Recorded: 23-25/7 2007, St. Anna Kapelle, Sinsheim-Weiler, Germany
    Released: 2008 | Label: Christophorus CHR 77295 | TT: 73:11

Regina Kabis - soprano, Benoit Haller - tenor, I Ciarlatani, Klaus Winkler (dir.)

In contrast with the familiar, well-researched ballets and dances of the High Baroque as exemplified at Versailles under Louis XIV, very little is known about social dances in France (and Europe) around 1600. […]
This wonderful collection of curiosities is the fruit of an extensive collaboration between I Ciarlatani and early dance expert Nicoline Winkler. It offers fascinating insights into the social dances of the Early Baroque and reveals astonishing musical variety – a veritable cornucopia, not only for aficionados of historical dance …

    Teldec B000026LQB | 2002

This is a monumental collection of Frans Bruggen performing a variety of pre-baroque, baroque and rococco works for recorder(s). Frans Bruggen put the recorder on the map as a solo instrument, and no one before or since has made such a huge impact. Many recorder players have burst onto the scene since, but I dare to say no one has matched Bruggen's musicality and expressiveness. Unfortunately, this 12-CD set appears to be out-of-print and hard-to-find as used copies as well.

The music of Ancient and Medieval Ireland has been all but lost except for a few strange and beautiful fragments. The idea of ANÚNA grew from their founder and director Michael McGlynn's exploration of this music which is at the very root of the Celtic world, both past and present. The soundworld created by ANÚNA breaks down the thin barriers between the spiritual and the secular, and has created a unique and haunting form that has put the group at the forefront of thc new-age of Irish and world music.
The name ANÚNA is derived from the Irish An Uaithne, which is the collective name of the three ancient types of Irish music, Suantraí (lullaby), Geantraí (happy song) and Goltraí (lament).

Most fans of Eric Burdon and the Animals would rate their performances from the year 1964-1966 as the best, with songs such as "House of the Rising Sun", "Boom, Boom", etc. serving as the standards by which future Animals material should be judged. However, some of the most interesting recordings took place during the time period covered on this CD, 1966-1968……..

    AMG:
Something/Anything? proved that Todd Rundgren could write a pop classic as gracefully as any of his peers, but buried beneath the surface were signs that he would never be satisfied as merely a pop singer-songwriter. A close listen to the album reveals the eccentricities and restless spirit that surges to the forefront on its follow-up, A Wizard, A True Star. Anyone expecting the third record of Something/Anything?, filled with variations on "I Saw the Light" and "Hello It's Me," will be shocked by A Wizard. As much a mindfuck as an album, A Wizard, A True Star rarely breaks down to full-fledged songs, especially on the first side, where songs and melodies float in and out of a hazy post-psychedelic mist.

George Kollias (born August 30, 1977 in Korinthos, Greece) is a Greek heavy metal drummer best known for his work with American death metal band Nile. He is the first of their four drummers to perform every song on more than one full length album (handling drum duties so far on Annihilation of the Wicked and Ithyphallic). He is a native of Greece (born in Korinthos). Some of his favorite bands are Metallica, Kreator, Morbid Angel and Behemoth. He started playing drums at the age of 12 and some years later started drum lessons with John Stavropoulos, a well known Greek drummer. In addition to being the drummer of Nile he also teaches drums at the Modern Music School in Athens.
He previously drummed for Sickening Horror, a brutal death metal band. He also used to be in the Greek melodic death metal band Nightfall, but left the band in 2005 to join Nile.
George Kollias made an instructional drumming DVD called "Intense Metal Drumming" that was released in July 2008
This is the first DVD from Niles drummer George Kollias.
It starts off with the blast beat, and all the variations. He goes into detail of the exercises and all the different workouts to achieve the speed, power, and technicality that is needed in today's metal drumming.
He also goes into double bass technique. George is one of the fastest, most intense drummers out there. He explains the combination of heel-up and heel-down technique he utilizes to get up to 280bpm.
This DVD is a must for drummers trying to get ahead in the very competitive and challenging field of extreme metal drumming.

Originally recorded in the 1980s, this fantastic collection features Eric Burdon, accompanied by a coterie of Los Angeles session musicians, performing a selection of blues and R&B covers and originals. A lively cover of Jerry Byrne's New Orleans classic "Lights Out" shows that the R&B veteran still packs a punch, while "Bird on the Beach" displays his sentimental side in much the same way as his '60s classic "San Franciscan Nights."

This excellent album deserves to be reissued in full on CD but some of its music remains out-of-print. Many of these songs find Sonny Rollins utilizing the Latin rhythms of Candido in addition to his regular quartet members (guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Ben Riley) and, on the calypso "Brownskin Girl," a vocal chorus interacts with the group. The highpoint is a lengthy "If Ever I Would Leave You" that is quite exciting. This underrated music is well worth an extensive search.

With the return of these stereo recordings by David Oistrakh and Lev Oborin (made in Paris in 1962), many collectors will find an automatic first choice. This new Philips set presents these accounts in fine digital transfers and has the benefit of having all 10 sonatas placed sequentially across four CDs. The performances are exceptionally fine, sometimes not as dramatic as Schneiderhan's (DG), it's true, but always intensely musical and natural… What you'll find here is a duo that devotes minute attentiveness to every passing detail, along the way conveying a powerful feeling of joyfulness and discovery. This is essential listening, and not just for violin devotees: this set belongs in everyone's collection!
