The vibraphone legend calls this wide-ranging tribute collection his most satisfying effort to date (this is a major catalog), and the one that hits closest to home. No doubt that's because he's digging deep into his past and paying homage to the legends of the instrument who shaped his own inimitable style. The four mentioned by the album title all had unique roles in the development of the instrument as a jazz focal point, and it's amazing to realize the vibes were only invented 75 years ago – just one generation before Burton was born.

Hi buddies! Despite I'm not a fan of Barenboim as a conductor, here in Spain, we have a magazine (is almost as sect) that promotes all the cds signed by Dani, like a sort of last revelation when things were invented time ago... Anyway my sick interest defeated me :P and was attracted by this Spanish pressing LP from the junks...and it really impressed me. Its sound is really nice!!! It has a nice performance of the music that I don't know why EMI didn't reissued on cd. The matter comes from the Side B; it has a lot of tracking noise so the groove is totally useless. The transfering of Divertimento was done, but couldn't take a decent sound from it. That's why I didn't add it here. Despite of that, Divertimento was reissued on and old EMI Matrix cd coupled with Schoenberg's Transfigured Night and Hindemith's Trauermusik, so if someone has it, it will be welcome. Please, let me know if you like how it sounds :) Enjoy!

Recorded November 5, 1982. "Hit The Road Again" with the Phillip Walker Blues Band is a rare blues album on the Timeless label. Most of the songs are remakes of Percy's old hits like "River's Invitation", "The Highway Is Like A Woman", "Two Years Of Torture", "My Jug And I", etc. The performances are good, the mood is laid back, and the band is fine with splendid guitar from Walker and fine tenor sax from Hollis Gimore.

Irvine Arditti has been responsible for having given the world premières of a number of large scale works especially written for him. These include Xenakis’ Dox Orkh and Hosokawa’s Landscape III, both for violin and orchestra, as well as Ferneyhough’s Terrain, Francesconi’s Riti Neurali and Body Electric, Dillon’s Vernal Showers, Harvey’s Scena, Pauset's Vita Nova, Reynolds Aspiration and Sciarrino's Le Stagioni Artificiali all for violin and ensemble. He has also been responsible for the creation of many solo works including both of Ferneyhough’s solo violin works, Intermedio and Unsichtbare Farben. He was also responsible for inspiring John Cage to complete his Freeman Etudes giving the first complete performance of them in 1991.
