In some ways, the Sweet epitomized all the tacky hubris and garish silliness of the early '70s. Fusing bubblegum melodies with crunching, fuzzy guitars, the band looked a heavy metal band, but were as tame as any pop group…

Label: Ponygirl Records | Release Year: 2016

Annie Stokes is an indie-folk musician from Virginia. Raised in the nation's capital on an eclectic mixture of musical theater, bluegrass, and classic Americana, her music is a fusion of city sounds and country soul. Although playing guitar only began as a hobby, soon her hometown was buzzing about "that girl who sounds like Jewel." Annie's lilting voice, poetic and introspective lyrics, and fingerpicking style draw listeners in with their rootsy and authentic feel. She's found, after years of making music and connecting with audiences, that when the artist prioritizes the song and the human experience that it's based on, everything else falls into place.

Ecstatic offer a fascinating, often dizzying insight to the primitive industrial minimalism of Italian siblings, Giancarlo and Roberto Drago, a.k.a. The Tapes, via Selected Works 1982 - 1992 sourced from original tapes and pressed to vinyl for the first time ever. Following on from Ecstatic’s issue of “mail artist” Danielle Ciullini’s Domestic Exile Collected Works 82-86, this set surveys a blind-spot in most people’s knowledge of early ‘80s Italian underground music, framed against a backdrop of the Anni di Piombo, or Years of Lead - a period of domestic political turmoil between the late ‘60s and early ’80s - and the mushroom shadow of nuclear war.

Sweet, sultry, swinging', sexy. A collection of the best ballads by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Newcomer Darby Williams commands her dynamic vocal range with artistic creativity and a personal touch that captures the essence and nuances of some of the greatest collaborators in jazz history. Darby’s feel for American Songbook materials is obvious and her natural interpretation of Ellington and Strayhorn’s songs are both thoughtful and intoxicating.

The long-lived and influential Italian progressive band Banco del Mutuo Soccorso was influenced by such British progressive giants as Yes and Gentle Giant while also drawing heavily on classical and folk music. Although the group simplified their sound in later years, from 1972 to 1976 the group produced a series of eclectic, densely arranged progressive classics…

This two-CD set contains excellent recordings of Rimsky-Korsakov's best orchestral works (aside from Scheherazade, which they assume you already have) in demonstration-quality digital sound. The Cappricio Espagnole is probably the best recording I've ever heard of this work, with perfect tempos and a colorful orchestral pallette. The sound quality here is really outstanding.

Sophisticated jazz played with virtuosity and at times with hypnotic beats and bass lines. The trombone player Karin Hammar herself convinces with a lush, often lyrical sound. Well arranged, tight and with strong melodies, all songs are written by Karin Hammar, who has developed to one of Sweden´s best trombone players, always with constant variation in her playing.

Style: Ambient, Modern Classical | Label: Sono Luminous

TOUCH follows on from my previous album, Lights in the Sky. It comprises eight tracks for analogue synthesiser, cello, piano, and string orchestra. Where Lights in the Sky was saturated, sonically intense, almost spoilt brat-ish sound, Touch has a more refined palette of sounds. Composers are often asked what their music is about, especially with instrumental music such as this. To me, it sort of defeats the purpose and joy of listening to music.

Blues and Ballads, this acoustic collection of songs interpreted simply, recorded live, solo or with a small group of friends celebrates my relationship between music, songs, the written word and legacy.Blues and Ballads celebrates the American oral tradition of blues and folk songs, not only being passed down and evolving but being transcribed (the original recording technique) and entered into the discipline of written sheet music and songbooks.

Guy was born in the South-East of the Netherlands. As a child, Guy showed much interest in music and was spending time listening to pop and classical music. His grandparents, who had an excellent sounding piano, inspired Guy to play. It was at this time he discovered how he enjoyed composing music by himself, and although Guy could not read music, he managed to compose simple musical pieces by himself. Guy's music can best be defined as vibrant, passionate, spiritual, and saturated with melodic warmth and gentle rhythm.

NNA Tapes is proud to present Secret Meeting, the collaboration of Travis Laplante (tenor saxophone) and Peter Evans (trumpet). Laplante and Evans are each devoted to creating multidimensional improvisational spaces, pushing their instruments to the edge in the service of a musical experience that travels beyond the realm of the mind. The deeply mysterious, epic improvisations on Secret Meeting points toward a seemingly ancient relationship between these two boundary-breaking improvisers.
