João Donato de Oliveira Neto is a Brazilian jazz and bossa nova pianist from Brazil, probably best known for his numerous albums as bandleader in the idiom. He first worked with Altamiro Carrilho, and went on to perform with other masters of the idiom such as Tom Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, as well as a host of others.

"When magic steps into the spotlight for the first time. . . it dazzles." So read the headline in an October 1980 full page ad in Billboard, announcing the introduction of 18 year old Angela Clemmons and her first single, a brilliant version of "Out Here On My Own," a song made popular that same year by Irene Cara in the movie Fame. Clemmons' voice was indeed dazzling: a bright soprano bearing similarities to the then-hot Deniece Williams, and with a beautiful tone. And while Clemmons had a brief moment of the kind of recognition promised in the ad, she's spent most of her career using her gift to help other artists dazzle.

Ranging from soul to soft rock, singer and songwriter Gino Vannelli earned several hits during the 1970s, including "People Gotta Move" and "I Just Wanna Stop." Vannelli learned to play the drums early in life and studied music theory at McGill University. He formed an R&B band with two brothers, but later began recording solo material for RCA in 1970. He became popular four years later when A&M released his hit single "People Gotta Move," from the Powerful People album.

The Best of Chic, Volume 2 is a greatest hits album of recordings by American R&B band Chic, released in 1992. The compilation focuses on single releases and album tracks from the band's later career, 1979-1983.

Alice Russell has been around for some time and anyone familiar with the likes of Bah Samba (for whom Alice is the lead vocalist), Quantic, The Quantic Soul Orchestra, Nostalgia 77 (listen to her cover the White Stripes 7 Nation Army, amazing)or Natureboy would have heard Ms. Russell. Alice never fails to deliver a consistent excellent performance and this is reflected in the tracks on this CD. Some of the tracks on this album you can find on the aforementioned artists albums but she did pen the songs.

Dust were almost an ideal cult band: a group that were of their time but never belonged to it, yet its members became better-known later, with drummer Marc Bell becoming Marky Ramone and bassist Kenny Aaronson joining the Stories, a band the singer/guitarist produced along with Dust producer Kenny Kerner. Of course, neither 1971's Dust or its 1972 sequel Hard Attack – both combined on this Legacy two-fer from 2013 – sound anything like the breakneck punk of the Ramones or the Baroque pop of the Stories, nor is it quite the proto-metal of its lore…
