The general theme of the series seems to be a look at the day-to-day dealings of Vikings through the lens of a crime syndicate viewing, a treatment markedly different from that taken by the ongoing comic book series about Vikings, Brian Wood's , issue #18 of which was also released on June 24, 2009 (I have likewise posted the complete ongoing series thereof ). The men involved in have strong family ties, there is a clearly defined flow of illicit goods, and brutality and vendettas are clearly present with an undercurrent of dark humor.
