This CD, issued in 2002 in conjunction with the publication of James Gavin's biography, "Deep in a Dream: The Long Night of Chet Baker," is an excellent collection of Baker recordings during his peak years. Included in the 19 tunes by trumpeter-vocalist Baker between 1952 and 1965 are three real gems, 1953 a capella vocals of "Blue Room" and "Spring Is Here" that have not been issued until now and a cut of "Petite Fleur" that only appeared on an out-of-print Bud Shank LP in 1965. Whether you want to take your first step into the land of Chet Baker or add to an already large collection of this artist, this CD is for you.

Totally insane French pop music

Creative expression is a passion inside the human being and is not limited by geographical location. Throughout my career, I have played music with dedicated musicians from many different countries... this has contributed to my growth as a human being. This album is called "Quartet West" because it was recorded in Los Angeles with musicians from diverse backgrounds who now reside in Los Angeles. Billy Higgins and I have been playing music together in many different contexts since we were teenagers. Since moving from New York to the West Coast in 1979, I have had the good fortune to meet and play music with Ernie Watts and Alan Broadbent. I want to thank these three special musicians for the depth and spontaneity that they bring to this music and all those that helped make this album possible.(Charlie Haden)

These 15 remixes of songs from Phoenix's last disc are all over the map. Animal Collective turn "Love Like a Sunset" into shimmering psychedelia; Passion Pit toss a couple of synths at "1901." In the hands of Chairlift, the sumptuous ballad "Fences" is dragged into the chill-out lounge. It's a fun, slightly gratuitous album, whose varied results underscore the strength of the source material: songs too well-built to be improved upon — or ruined.

Part of the generation that has given us artists like Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Mem Shannon and Larry McCray, this man Larry Garner writes thought provoking songs that we today in 2009 can relate to. If you find you can't relate to the 'downhome-ness" of Robert Johnson then Larry Garner will definitely bring you up to date as he mentions issues that we all face in the 21st century. I would say he is an artist who is best seen live but for those unfortunates who can't then his CDs are a fine alternative. The title track hits home. Very true words that most should heed. The guitar work is great but very economical…Larry tastefully uses his guitar to embellish the song not the other way around. No song is just an excuse for a ten minute guitar solo. Watch out for Sonny Landreths phenomenal slide solo on the track "Rats & Roaches In My Kitchen", one of the best slide solos ever done in history! The song is one written by Blues legend Silas Hogan, a man who appears to have influenced Garner alot. Don't Run Talking" a song about idle gossip is so factual. i'm sure most of us have experienced what Larry sings about. Every track will educate you because Larry Garner is a poet of the Blues. You won't be dissapointed if you get this one.
