The musician and composer Valerius Otto [1579-c. 1612] was born … in Leipzig to a family of a teacher employed at the local church of St Thomas. All we know about his life is gleaned from a few period sources. … In the spring of 1609 Otto received an "author's" fee from the Leipzig town council for a composition he had written for them. He doubtless began composing before this time, however. As a musician he entered the services of Georg Ludwig von Leuchtenberg. In the introduction to his printed collection Newe Paduanen, Galliarden, Intraden und Currenten, Nach Englischer und Frantzösischer Art, the only surviving and complete collection of his works containing a total of 62 compositions for five voices, published in Leipzig in 1611, Valerius Otto introduces himself as an "organist in the Prague Old Town, at the Church of Our Lady before Tyn". Um den Erfolg von Adoro angemessen zu würdigen, muss man sich klarmachen, dass die fünf Sänger von Anbeginn ihrer Karriere an unter völlig anderen Bedingungen angetreten sind, als Popstars dies üblicherweise tun. Obwohl sie sich fast ausschließlich der Interpretation von Pophits verschrieben haben, stehen ihnen nicht die gängigen Möglichkeiten von Singleauskopplungen, Musikvideos und Radiolandschaft zu Verfügung. Warum? Weil sie die Hits auf höchst ungewöhnliche Weise interpretieren, nämlich mit den Mitteln der Oper. Dennoch konnte ihr Erstlingswerk Adoro beim Publikum punkten, nun erscheint der Nachfolger Für Immer und Dich, hergestellt nach gleichem Rezept. Hierfür haben die Sangesbrüder tief in die Repertoirekiste deutscher Interpreten wie Nena, Marius Müller Westernhagen, Rio Reiser, Herbert Grönemeyer, Udo Jürgens und sogar Udo Lindenbergs gegriffen und nach eigenen bewährten Maßstäben umgemodelt. Mit von der Partie ist das Bulgarische Filmorchester, das in kämpferischer Manier aufspielt, als gelte es den Score der 7. Star Wars-Episode einzuspielen, oder zumindest den Entwurf einer neuen Europahymne. Wie zum Beispiel Westernhagens “Freiheit“, das zwar in den ersten Takten daherkommt wie die Erkennungsmusik des Werbeblocks kurz vorm Sonntagabend-Krimi (“Dieser Tatort wird Ihnen präsentiert von Krombacher“), sich jedoch schnell zu voller Erhabenheit mausert und somit perfekt für den Jahrestag zum Mauerfall im kommenden Jahr empfiehlt! Doch so schön das auch ist; auf Dauer -nämlich insgesamt knapp 50 Minuten- kann soviel Heroismus und Pathos ganz schön anstrengend sein, selbst wenn so gefühlig vorgetragen, wie die Version von Lindenbergs Song “Horizont.“ “Wir waren zwei Deh-hetektive, die Hüüüüüte tiief im Gesi-hicht…“ eingerahmt von Harfenklängen und Streichern, -das ist nicht jedermanns Sache. All jenen aber, die bereits den Erstling Adoro in vollen Zügen genossen haben, sei Für Immer und Dich als Fortsetzung uneingeschränkt ans Herz gelegt.

This is part of one of the most extensive Euro-dance (Italo Disco) series available. Since the series is so extensive, you can bet there's plenty of filler, and that's definitely the case here.

One of the turning points in the career of John Coltrane came in 1965. The great saxophonist, whose playing was always very explorative and searching, crossed the line into atonality during that year, playing very free improvisations (after stating quick throwaway themes) that were full of passion and fury. This particular studio album has two standards (a stirring "Chim Chim Cheree" and "Nature Boy") along with two recent Coltrane originals ("Brazilia" and "Song of Praise"). Art Davis plays the second bass on "Nature Boy," but otherwise this set (a perfect introduction for listeners to Coltrane's last period) features the classic quartet comprised of the leader, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones.
