Al Di Meola (nee Al Dimeola) certainly has come along way from his native New Jersey to the stage of the Mawazine Festival in Rabat, Morocco, where this DVD was filmed on May 20, 2009. But there’s no need to question why. In modern jazz circles, Di Meola is among the most respected guitarists in the world, with lightening speed fingers playing in scale style.

This concert was filmed in The Netherlands, in 1988. Joe "Guitar" Hughes & his band, were from Houston, Texas. Joe died from a heart attack during 2003. This is a great, electric blues concert, however, it does not have a running time of 120 minutes, as described in the Amazon Product Description. I'm not sure of the offical running time, its not included in the dvd package, but I'd estimate it to be around 60 minutes, excluding the bonus material.

The Hungarian Miklós Perényi is recognised as one of the great cellists of his generation, with a distinctive, subtly nuanced sound matched by extraordinary musicality. Here he gives his first solo recital for ECM, performing notable works by Bach, Britten and Ligeti. It follows his brilliant performance, alongside András Schiff, in the award-winning recordings for the label of the Complete Music for Piano and Violoncello by Beethoven. Perényi plays Benjamin Britten's Third Suite for solo cello, op. 97 and Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No 6 in D major, BWV 1012, making plain their historical interconnection.

Although he himself was a highly gifted composer, Austrian-born Alexander Zemlinsky is today better remembered as the man who taught both Arnold Schoenberg and Erich Wolfgang Korngold than for his own creations. Zemlinsky was born to a Vienna-based Polish family in 1871. After attending the Vienna Conservatory from 1887 to 1892 (first studying piano with Anton Door and later composition with J.N. Fuchs) he joined the Wiener Tonkünstlerverein (Vienna Composer's Society) in 1893. He made the acquaintance of Arnold Schoenberg in 1895, teaching him counterpoint for many months, and thus becoming that remarkable ………

Pierre Boulez (b. 1925), French composer, conductor, and music theorist, is regarded as a leading composer of the post-Webern serialist movement who also embraced elements of aleatory and electronics. As a child Boulez demonstrated a formidable aptitude in mathematics, but left for Paris in 1942 to enroll in the Paris Conservatoire. His studies there often ran into difficulties, as he was rapidly developing revolutionary – "Praise be to amnesia" – attitudes towards all things traditional. But two decisive influences during those years helped to shape his musical personality. The first was Messiaen's famous analysis course, the other was René Leibowitz, who introduced him to serial music, where Boulez found "a harmonic and contrapuntal ……..

No! With its reinterpretations of the music composed by Thelonious Monk, "Sharp? Monk? Sharp! Monk!" wasn't the most "jazzy" recording that multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp could conceive. In "Aggregat" we find him (in a way similar to his soundtrack to the film "Spectropia") using this musical language as if he always did it in such an integral and authentic way. Choosing the tenor and soprano saxophones as principal vehicles of expression (only sometimes do we hear his trademark electric guitar), what we have here is rhythmic and melodic jazz with a twist, in which improvisation expands from both written scores and conceptual approaches.

After several albums of Western classical music, Chinese pianist Lang Lang returns to the music of his native country on Dragon Songs (…) The 63-minute CD is accompanied by a lengthy DVD that includes a 45-minute documentary of Lang's return visit to China for master classes, concerts, and even a little time with his family at "home" (an apartment he says he has slept in twice). There are also video performances of the all of the album's tracks, each one prefaced by introductory remarks by the pianist. Just as "Yellow River Piano Concerto" began the CD, it ends the DVD in a mammoth performance in Guangzhou with four orchestras combined and 100 female piano players, all spread out in a space that looks larger than a football field.

On Gravitas you are slammed head first into a churning hurricane of hard rock anthems. This CD is a non-stop, full-on, melt your speakers, heavy metal roller coaster ride that includes both new and classic sounding heavy metal hits. Gravitas is both progressive, yet accessible – headbanging, yet commercial enough to catapult them to rock God status. The production on the recording is far superior to many of their peers and the bass, drums, and vocals are a highly polished machine that propels the guitar sound to dizzying new levels – the guitar leads are insane. This is one heavy metal album that you do not want to end.

"Five Miles Out" is the seventh album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1982, at a time when his music was moving away from large-scale symphonic pieces towards a more accessible pop style. It is one of the very few albums on which Oldfield sings lead vocals, as he is noted for not having any confidence in his voice's qualities.
