Palabras Urgentes, marks the 50th year of Susana Baca’s extraordinary musical career. With an illustrious life spanning music, teaching and politics from multiple Grammy Awards to becoming Peru’s first black cabinet minister and holding the post of Minister of Culture, Palabras Urgentes is the nexus of all Susana’s experiences and, at the age of 76, is the album she always wanted to create.

An unapologetically rowdy all-female rock band from the Pacific Northwest, Thunderpussy are a loud and proud quartet whose music combines a heavy dose of indie rock smarts and arena rock bombast with a dash of humor and plenty of showmanship. Thunderpussy were formed in Seattle, Washington in late 2013 by vocalist Molly Sides (formerly of This Bitch Don't Fall Off), guitarist Whitney Petty (a veteran of the Grizzled Mighty), Leah Julius (ex-Cumulus and Sundries), and drummer Lena Simon (also a member of La Luz and Kairos).

Real Life’ is the result of Melbourne singer songwriter Jess Locke trying to make sense of a world that feels more and more unreal. Some parts of the album simply expressions of despair at a world that feels more and more dystopian. Writing this record, Locke found herself thinking a lot about what it means to live when you know that one day you will die, not just individually, but as a species, as a planet. But as much as our impermanence is very much a fact, it is also a fantasy, some theoretical, future event.

I spent a good bit of solitary time ruminating on things that had happened over the last year or two. Rethinking what I’m doing, how I’m doing it, who with, even in just the everyday. Change is hard but also such a gift.”

Liv Monaghan is the independent Irish vocalist and songwriter based in Paris. "My music pulls threads from Jazz, Soul, Folk, and Romanticism to create an alternative, sometimes experimental, often poetic and always original sound. Elysian Fields recorded What The Thunder Said in New York with their French rhythm section (Matthieu Lopez and Olivier Pérez) and longtime creative collaborators Ed Pastorini and Thomas Bartlett. James Yost co-produced, recorded and mixed, bringing forth Oren and Jennifer’s sweeping sonic universes while the experience of lives lived in nearly 30 years together as a band are revealed in the lyrics. Marianella Rojas, known as Nella, is a Venezuelan singer, originally from Porlamar, Margarita Island, Venezuela. Her music brings together the folklore of her native land, with contemporary sounds and a strong influence of Andalusian music, sung with a personal and expressive vocal style.

Renowned Danish composer and pianist, Frans Bak, unveils his latest project, the ballads album 'Softer Than You Know', on Storyville Records, marking a nostalgic return to his musical origins. It's a collection of 10 songs featuring lyrics by Helle Hansen, performed by the internationally acclaimed vocalist Sinne Eeg. Bak describes the album as a fusion between jazz and pop, offering laid-back melodies and ample room for musical exploration.

Pull the Rope, the new record by Ibibio Sound Machine, casts the Eno Williams and Max Grunhard–led outfit in a new light. The hope, joy, and sexiness of their music remain, but, further honing the edge of their acclaimed 2022 album Electricity, the connection they aim to foster has shifted venues from the sunny buoyancy of a sunlit festival to a sweat-soaked, all-night dance club. Williams and Grunhard attribute this shift to a matter of collaborators, recording Pull the Rope with Sheffield-based producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A.) over the course of two weeks. The way the pair wrote songs changed significantly rather than Eno penning lyrics to music generated by Max and company’s jamming, Orton started with Eno and Max writing together before adding the band.
