Nove brani del repertorio dei PGR sono stati sottoposti alla maestria e all'inventiva di Franco Battiato. Il risultato e' 'ConFusione', l'album uscito ieri 1 giugno. Come recita la copertina, le canzoni di Giovanni Lindo Ferretti e compagni sono state 'disidratate' da Battiato e reinventate con arrangiamenti nuovi, in un progetto nato puramente dalla reciproca stima fra gli artisti, visto che la formazione dei PGR non e' piu' in attivita'.

My intention in posting this is to give our Russian friends the opportunity of listening to one of their co-nationals on a South American Tour in Buenos Aires during 1976. The announcer is the official Radio Municipal de Buenos Aires broadcast from the theatre on the day of the concert.

Conga è il nome di un tamburo usato nella musica afro-cubana, milonga un riferimento all'Argentina e a un ballo sinuoso, intrigante e nostalgico che De Piscopo rilancia come un moderno tango. Il brano apre l'antologia in due cd: il primo contiene i successi di Tullio De Piscopo come 'Andamento Lento', reinterpretati con gli ospiti citati; il secondo cd avrà per protagonista la batteria. Con questo amato strumento in primo piano, De Piscopo interpreta grandi pezzi di blues, jazz e musica classica, da Mozart a Verdi.
Dino Saluzzi’s new music for orchestra and soloists characteristically glides through the borders between the idioms. A Saluzzi composition can, from one minute to the next, be “serious”, “popular”, “traditional”, “experimental -, even if these style divisions barely exist for a bandoneonist who prefers to see his work as “simply an expression of innocence”. “El Encuentro” was recorded live in Amsterdam with the Metropole Orchestra in February 2009 and is issued in time for Dino’s 75th birthday in May. Bismillah Khan is an outstanding and popular contemporary shehnai player. He has attained astonishing mastery over the instrument. He was born into a family of shehnai players and it was natural that he would train in the art of playing shenai.
He was born in a small village called Dumraon in the Shahbad district of Bihar, on November 21, 1916. His early childhood was spent in Varanasi, on the banks of the Ganga, where his uncle was the official shehnai player in the famous Vishwanath temple. His elder brother was also a renowned shehnai player. His father, Paigamber Bax, was a musician for the Dumraon State.
Travis Haddix perfected his blend of Southern soul and contemporary blues on his second album, Winners Never Quit. While the production may be a little too clean for some tastes, Haddix has hit upon a winning formula, one that has a bit of grit and a bit of polish and just enough soul to keep things interesting. Chances are you won't mistake this for a Stax or Chess production, but there's enough passion and heart within Haddix as he balances gutsy blues interludes with kicking soul progressions to make this a thoroughly appealing record.
