The Friends of Mr. Cairo is the second collaboration of Jon Anderson and Vangelis as Jon & Vangelis. There are two editions of this album, with different sleeves. Both versions were released in 1981 within a few weeks of each other. The second edition includes the single "I'll Find My Way Home", which stayed for 14 weeks in the Swiss charts and peaked at #1 on March 7, 1982 (1982-03-07). "State of Independence" was later a hit single for Donna Summer, and a decade later for Moodswings with Chrissie Hynde on vocal. When the Ohio Players' Mercury smashes were burning up the charts in the mid-'70s, Westbound no doubt regretted letting the funksters get away and wished that it had been the label that released "Fire," "Love Rollercoaster," and "I Want to Be Free." But since Westbound no longer had the Players under contract, it tried to cash in on their popularity by putting out material that it had in the can. Released in 1975 but recorded from 1972-1973. Live In The USA is a testament to how a live metal CD should be like - comprising solid performances and catchy tunes all performed by an enthusiastic band in front of an equally enthusiastic crowd. If you are like myself and are a fan of the band, do not hesitate in picking this up (and its companion DVD). And if you are new to the band or interested, it is definitely worth checking out.
