Honestly, vicious and politically incorrect, Lemmy is a rage on stage. Hoarse voice, sunglasses hangovers, got the microphone a foot of its height and yelled as the king of rock hard it is. Iron fest opened, their self-titled album in 1982, and closed with Overkill. Before rang, wanting his legendary Ace of Spades..

    Yehudi Menuhin, violin

Bach's famous Sonatas for Violin and Keyboard need no introduction other than to say that they are considered to be the pinnacle of sonata writing in the Baroque era. This two-disc set presents all six sonatas performed by the legendary Yehudi Menuhin and Louis Kentner, recorded in 1951.

Yehudi Menuhin is commonly considered one of the twentieth century's greatest violin virtuosi; he was in the first flush of his mature style in 1951, and his trademark noble tone never fails him. Kentner is always a supportive and tasteful partner, always following the ebbs and flows of the violinist's tempos, and rising and falling appropriately with the music. Slow movements are delicate and warm, and both musicians handle the faster sections with elegance and flair. Menuhin always said that Bach's music should be played "with a spirit of reverence," and he is certainly true to his word here.

Silvius Leopold Weiss was the greatest lutenist of the 18th century. His ensemble compositions have remained hitherto obscure because they are all incomplete. Only the lute tablature part remains in the known manuscripts. Richard Stone has reconstructed the flute and bowedstring parts heard on this premiere recording.

' The JB's grab at a piece of the disco market that made Van McCoy a solo star with this production. It's excellent throughout despite James Brown's subdued arrangements on some songs. "(It's Not the Express) It's the JB's Monaurail," usually a six-minute song, rambles for over eight. Fred Wesley's funky trombone peppers "All Aboard the Soul Funky Train" (an update of "Night Train"). "Transmograpfication" is similar to jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson's crossover attempts on his Sunburst and Realization albums. "Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself and You Be Yours" is better than the title, with a Dyke and the Blazers-type vocal that sets it right.' Andrew.Hamilton@allmusic.com

The Byrds Play Dylan is a compilation album by American rock band The Byrds, and was first released in November 1979 by Columbia Records. The album features thirteen interpretations of Bob Dylan songs from their entire career, regardless of line-up. The recordings contained within range from 1965 with "Mr. Tambourine Man" to 1970's "Positively 4th Street". The Byrds Play Dylan never charted in either the U.S. or the UK. In 2001, the album was remastered and expanded to twenty tracks. All of the material on both releases of The Byrds Play Dylan was previously released, either on The Byrds' regular albums, as bonus tracks on their remastered CDs, or on The Byrds, the 1990 boxed set.

' …I listed this album as the number two soul LP of the year at the time of its release, and I think it has not lost any of its magic in nearly 30 years. What makes this such a strong album is that both the ballads and the funky upbeat numbers are equally powerful. On the ballads, Sandra reminds me of Gladys Knight, while on the funkier cuts Gwen McCrae at her very best is a close point of comparison. If you like the music of Gladys and Gwen, don't hesitate a second, just click and download the CD.' Ismo.Tenkanen@Soul.Express

"Artist portrait" is a beautifully arranged bouquet of Sharon Isbin’s “best”. In this album, she has combined in a single CD Baroque, Latin music, Folks songs, and modern concerti commissioned by the artist. Mrs. Isbin has created the guitar department at Julliard School of Music, she has commissioned more concerti then any other guitarist, has won a Grammy, has written the Classical Guitar Answer Book to mention just a few of her outstanding accomplishments.

Sandra – for those who don't know is credited with "almost lead vocals" on the "Some Of My Best Jokes Are Friends" album, and as a "featured vocalist" on "R&B Skeletons In The Closet". A great example of her strong, soulful voice is on the Funkadelic 12" single "By Way Of The Drum" (1989), which features her prominently. "The Need To Be" is a fairly typical, but well inspired 80's pop/R&B outing for this excellent vocalist before she came aboard the Mothership to record and tour with the P-Funk All Stars at least briefly. This album contains PURE DEEP SOUL at its best, with touches of modern soul on the uptempo tracks. The balance is great, and really makes the album a fresh one: hardly the usual soul set from the time, and a record that really holds up over the years! Trust me, if you are a real soul fan, you don’t want to miss this.' editorial.review@soulexpress.net
