With stunning acoustic guitar duels, two young men from the south of Germany gathered a loyal following with their brilliant dialogues. Ralf Illenberger from Stuttgart and his partner Martin Kolbe from Herrenberg, were drawn in by the folk and guitar boom that was everywhere in the seventies. In 1977 they got together and developed their style with the first albums “Waves” and “Colouring The Leaves”: they conjured up huge, orchestral sounds, using dynamism and melodies rather than technical blending.

This generous album (nearly 75 minutes long) contains 14 selections from the award-winning trio's other CDs. Thus, the range of music is quite wide. The artists (Erika Nickrenz–piano, Adela Pena-violin, & Sara Sant'Ambrogio–cello), though accomplished soloists, meld their playing beautifully. Most of the pieces are very lively–not too relaxing or useful for meditation–but great for listening.

Following his first solo concertos disc of Mendelssohn and Schumann, French violinist Renaud Capuçon chose a disc of Mozart's first and third concertos, as well as his imposing Sinfonia Concertante, with outstanding young violist Antoine Tamestit. All three works feature the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by fellow Frenchman and Mozart expert Louis Langrée. Says Capuçon of Langrée (who has directed the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York since 2002): "Working with Louis Langrée is a particular privilege, his Mozart has honesty, purity and joie de vivre…grace, in fact." Will is one of the most underrated male artists in recent history. He gets almost no love in the U.S., probably because he can't really be pigeonholed into one category or neatly packaged in a radio playlist. I consider Will a Jazz artist, but he definitely has an R&B sensibility. He has enjoyed some success periodically, mostly in the adult contemporary format, but this man is a fantastic vocalist. I think his biggest hit to date was a duet with Rochelle Ferrell "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This" from his later CD "Love's the Place To Be."
