    Long running Japanese metallers, Anthem, made a very solid splash into the international metal circles with this album. I remember hearing the title track many years ago on my college radio station of choice's metal show and being very impressed with it. Listening to this again over 20 years after the fact reveals that this album is holding up pretty well and features some excellent tunes…

    It is enjoyable and entertaining rock release. Songwriting skill of Kevin Chalfant, who once worked as Journey vocalist around '93-96, has improved tremendously from Eye Of The Storm album. Overall as Eye Of The Storm, this one is again tried and trued Journey styled album. My honest impression is this one is more solid than Eye… River of Destiny is a masterpiece track collaborated with Jim Peterik(ex-Survivor) who recently made dramatic comeback with his great solo "Jim Peterik and World Stage". Summer Of Love is my second favorite track from his album reminding me of pre-Escape era of Journey. Piece Of My Heart, Surrender and Never Stop Loving You are also fine tracks.

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band played with Bob Dylan at his first electric performance at Newport in 1965 and at Woodstock in 1969. The band was formed in Chicago by avid blues aficionados Paul Butterfield on harmonica, Elvin Bishop on guitar and the former Howlin' Wolf rhythm section of Jerome Arnold and Sam Lay on bass and drums respectively. Butterfield and Bishop spent most of their time in Chicago bars listening to the blues masters perform live.

    This is finally the re-issue on CD of the 1965 LP that captured the collaboration between two greats, Astor Piazzolla composing music to texts by Jorge Luis Borges. The music for "El hombre de la esquina rosada - Suite para recitante, canto, y doce instrumentos" had been written originally in 1960 while Piazzolla was in New York on an idea by Argentinian choreographer Ana Itelman, who also adapted texts taken from Borges' "El hombre de la esquina rosada" for this recording.

    Miles Davis - Sketches Of Spain (1960) {2006 DSD Japan Mini LP Edition, SICP-1207}

    Along with Kind of Blue, In a Silent Way, and Round About Midnight, Sketches of Spain is one of Miles Davis' most enduring and innovative achievements. Recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 – after Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley had left the band – Davis teamed with Canadian arranger Gil Evans for the third time. Davis brought Evans the album's signature piece, "Concierto de Aranjuez," after hearing a classical version of it at bassist Joe Mondragon's house. Evans was as taken with it as Davis was, and set about to create an entire album of material around it. The result is a masterpiece of modern art.

    Auch auf ihrer dritten CD setzen die Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion ganz auf ihr bewährtes Rezept: Klassische Melodien - angereichert mit viel rhythmischem Temperament. Bei der Besetzung gehen sie aber diesmal aufs Ganze. Da wird nicht gespart, sondern gleich mit sinfonischer Großbesetzung aufgewartet. Die Kollegen des Münchner Rundfunkorchesters unter der Leitung von Roger Epple waren Feuer und Flamme bei diesem Projekt. Und das spürt man in jedem Takt. Wenn dann Bizets Habanera aus der Carmen Suite oder Mozarts berühmte 40. Sinfonie im Salsa-Rhythmus erklingen, dann wird so richtig eingeheizt im Konzertsaal. Und die Mischung aus stimmungsvoller Klassik und heißen karibischen Rhythmen geht voll auf und lässt keinen Hörer kalt.

    BEST OF… PART 2 contains tracks recorded between 1977 and 1991.
    Though they've had nearly as many personnel changes as Spinal Tap, Uriah Heep are one of the UK's most enduring bands. In the 1970s, they had several hit singles and albums to their credit with their mixture of hard rock (with progressive overtones) and engaging pop melodies, and British prog-rock legend John Wetton (King Crimson, UK, Asia) was once a member. This best-of collection gives a nice retrospective of the group's post-'70s career.

    Magic Slim & the Teardrops proudly uphold the tradition of what a Chicago blues band should sound like. Their emphasis on ensemble playing and a humongous repertoire that allegedly ranges upwards of a few hundred songs give the towering guitarist's live performances an endearing off-the-cuff quality: you never know what obscurity he'll pull out of his oversized hat next. Born Morris Holt on August 7, 1937, the Mississippi native was forced to give up playing the piano when he lost his little finger in a cotton gin mishap. Boyhood pal Magic Sam bestowed his magical moniker on the budding guitarist (and times change as Slim's no longer slim). Holt first came to Chicago in 1955, but found that breaking into the competitive local blues circuit was a tough proposition. Although he managed to secure a steady gig for a while with Robert Perkins' band (Mr. Pitiful & the Teardrops), Slim wasn't good enough to progress into the upper ranks of Chicago bluesdom.
