Mindflower is the brain/soulchild of Fabio Antonelli along with Fabrizio Defacqz and Alberto Callegari. Various albums have featured a host of other musicians but these three have been the core group. "The Art of Dreams in a Little Bottle" was released under the moniker of Fabio Antonelli Ensemble, but as far as the RPI team is concerned, as well as the presentation on the artist's website will acknowledge, the album can easily be included on the artist page of Mindflower….

The pairing of Afro-Majorcan vocalist Concha Buika and Afro-Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés has apparently been a long time coming. But they are here together on this lovely recording, featuring songs from a wide variety of composers, in a handful of duets, or with the Valdés' band backing them. El Ultimo Trago – translated as "The Last Drink" – is as much a tribute to Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, a major influence on Buika. She's a passionate singer with a dusky, slightly raspy, thin, and gritty voice, but she sure can belt out a song like a great blues singer, or Cape Verdean contemporary Césaria Evora. While coming from the land of flamenco, this music retains the son quality of Afro-Cuban music, in great part due to the professional expertise Valdés adds to the musical arrangements, not necessarily the lyric content…

"Sweet Surrender" opens with some delightful harmonica before Housley glides into a mournful ballad about a young woman having to decide whether to stay in her bleak small town with her lover or move out into the big bad scary world. It’s a minor classic, in my humble opinion. For a debut album, Sweet Surrender by Lauren Housley is outstanding, with a pin sharp production that highlights both her voice and her words, and the superb artwork on the cover would have caught my attention in a record store too. You heard it here first.

After a messy split with longtime musical partner Dave Mustaine in Megadeth, bassist Dave Ellefson wasted little time getting his next project a float: F5. In this day and age, most heavy metal bands would like you to believe that they are happy to simply bash away at their instruments 24/7, with their Marshalls cranked up to 11…

Despite hailing from Italy, Eiffel 65 performs all songs on this album in English. It is widely considered as a landmark album of the 1990s and was critical in opening Eurodance to a global audience.

Pessimism can be so beautiful: German nautic doomers Ahab have not only created their very own subgenre, they are also incomparable dabblers in solemn melancholy! The Boats of the Glen Carrig is a novel by William Hope Hodgson from 1907 that tells the gruesome story of survival after shipwreck: the ice-cold embrace of the sea this as always has been turned to molten lead in the utmost atmospheric manner by Ahab! Since the band`s founding in late 2004, the four-piece has continuously worked its way to the top of (funeral) doom. The Boats of the Glen Carrig is their magnum opus and is gracefully nestled in between slow-motion anthems and haunting melodies.

PYOGENESIS are back!24 years PYOGENESIS means tours and fans all around the globe, playing in front of 560,000 people in Hungary, performances at Rock am Ring /Rock im Park or Wacken and #1 in MTV’s viewer charts. Besides that, the band co-invented the genre “Gothic Metal” in the early 90s. But 24 years PYOGENESIS also means 13 years without a new album and 10 years without shows. Now, this break is finally over! After their sold out comeback show in Romania, the band will release their highly anticipated 6th album in summer. With “A Century In The Curse Of Time”, the four-piece around mastermind Flo v. Schwarz is returning to their roots, recording not only the heaviest, but also the most epic and ambitious album in the band’s history. It’s their first concept album ever: The lyrical theme is about the change of society in the 19th century under the influence of the industrialization, the steam-engine, the emerging bourgeoisie and science fiction literature such as Jules Verne.

Continuing a regular album release schedule over the previous 15 years and reliable quality since the duo's debut over 25 years prior, Let's Hear It for the Dogs delivers more of Craig and Charlie Reid's jaunty '50s and '60s R&B-, soul-, and country-influenced pop with 13 original songs and, this time, no covers. Production and arrangements relying heavily on electric guitars and drums add strings to a couple of tracks, including the epic love story "Tuesday Afternoon," and horns to the spirited "Then Again." The album includes expected musical homages, such as the peppy, Dion-esque "You Built Me Up," and later the rockabilly-informed "Then Again" and doo wop-inspired "Forever Young."
