Stefano Bollani (born 5 December 1972, Milan) is an Italian jazz pianist from Campi bisenzio. He made his professional debut at fifteen and received his diploma in piano from the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence. He performs classical music, smooth jazz, avant-garde jazz, Brazilian jazz, and pop rock. In 1998, Musica Jazz magazine voted him Best Jazz Talent of the Year and later he would be awarded for jazz by a New Swing group in Japan. While he is mostly known for his collaborations with Enrico Rava, he has made several albums as a leader, and has been favourably acknowledged by several long established jazz musicians, such as Martial Solal. The album Mi ritorni in mente, includes an interpretation of the standard "Nature Boy" which has been acclaimed by many.

The recordings in the present set are typically fluent, compelling De Franco music in a first-class small combo setting. “I never abandoned the idea of being able to experience a somatic feeling in addition to the intellectual experience of modern music. Both are essential. You gotta have both—the cerebral and the feel, the funk. Individually De Franco and Harry “Sweets” Edison blow with the confidence and assertiveness that have become their hallmarks. Kessel takes care of business, lying quietly in the background until it comes his turn to solo, then leaping out to have his say. Jimmy Rowles, Herbie Mann, Bob Hardaway, and the rest of the men playing here are deeply swinging in healthly, mainstream fashion…

10,000 days is roughly the equivalent of 30 years (OK, 27.4 years - but just go with us on this one) It s fitting then that the release of 10,000 Days helps mark Saga's 30th anniversary as a band. Sadly though it also marks the final CD that Saga will record with lead singer and band co-founder, Michael Sadler. Yes, one of the most unique voices in all of rock is moving on, but not before delivering a spectacular new CD full of Saga's trademark melodically progressive sound - and not before taking the band out for one final farewell tour. The extraordinary artwork for 10,000 Days was designed by Warren Flannigan who created the visuals for Hollywood blockbusters such as Blade, X-Men and The Hulk as well as designing the packaging for the latest Symphony X release.

Russell Malone's second CD for Maxjazz Live at Jazz Standard, Vol. 1 has a bit of a harder edge then Playground, his first session for the label. Well accompanied by pianist Martin Bejerano, bassist Tassili Bond and drummer Jonathan Blake on this live performances at the Jazz Standard, the guitarist focuses mostly on his challenging originals. "I Saw You Do It" is a marvelous example, an intricate, boundary stretching affair that is essentially a blues intermingled with post-bop and a touch of dissonance, while the breezy "Flirt" is more easygoing, built from a call and response pair of riffs that are developed into a full-fledged work. Malone's choice of Frank Rosolino's "Blue Daniel" may turn a few heads as he slowly transforms it from a jazz waltz setting into a cooking hard bop…

It would be easy to peg Ray Obiedo's Sweet Summer Days in the lazy title category, but in this case, the Bay Area guitarist's easygoing approach applies perfectly. That's not to say he's dogging it; this is a tightly produced mix of memorable ballads and gentle, mid-tempo melodies, with subtle hints of the Latin fusion punch that is Obiedo's trademark. It's more like a well-planned vacation from the usual sense of polyrhythmic, Latin-meets-African busyness that previous efforts like Iguana had. While his usual angle is breaking off the predictable melodic path towards odd metered explorations before returning, here he focuses on getting from A to B with minimal fuss. Less exotic and unique, sure, but the zip in his electric string style (which compares favorably to Steve Laury) is still center stage, and he still enjoys shading in the harmonies with splashes of Latin piano (Peter Horvath), trombone (Jeff Cressman) and sax, EWI and flute (the versatile Norbert Stachel).

This 3 CD collection features a triumvirate of live Stevie Ray shows, all taken from FM Broadcasts, performed throughout the period when his star was shining brightest. The first of these, on DISC ONE of this set, is the early show played at the Spectrum in Montreal, Canada, on August 17th 1984, a few months following the release of his second album, Couldn t Stand The Weather, and thus featuring a number of cuts from that record, but mixing it up too with earlier songs and covers. It should be noted this is a completely different show to that now featured on the Deluxe Edition of Couldn t Stand the Weather, which is the late set, albeit performed on the same day The second show.

'I.E.' is his latest and arguably most accomplished album embodying these traits.

Genre: Krautrock / Progressive Rock | Country: Germany | Label: Witch & Warlock | 006

The dark German collective back with completely catchy kraut-improvisations. All tracks deliver memacing heavy, fuzzy psychedelic moments that merit a serious listening. After their amazing and most popular effort, "Nibelungenlied" stresses the free-sonic-destruction dimension of their music. The sound is always dominated by screaming / electric bluesy guitar parts, sound experiments and macabre keyboards effects. "The heroic deeds of Siegfried" is a dark and minimalist, melancholic composition with a dubtle "medieval" flavour. The savage percussions announces a delicate, simplistic guitar sequence in a moody tone. "Nibelungenlied I" is an agressive, dynamic guitar orientated composition, featuring really hypnotic, rocking sequences; all in improvisation with a repetitive bass line and some vicious guitar solos. "Gunter & Brunhild", "Hagen von Tronje" & "Siegfried's death" are bluesy-kraut jam with wha wha effects and strangely doom, sinister atmospheres. Heavy, complex, weird & cool! A "poisoning" masterpiece. This album only has to be avoided by those who can't support an extremely poor, infect sound production.

DJ Unity Dub has chosen a fine series of some of the best proponents of modern dub and mixed them flawlessly into a steadily rising set. Sounds From The Ground, Groove Corporation, Bill Laswell and Global Youth shine out. Starting with a lovely, natural intro of waves, waterfalls and birdsongs the bass of Jah Wobble then kicks in to shake the floor. The overall vibe is deep, witty and adventurous. Every track is a highlight and the mixes are sometimes dramatic and sometimes very subtle. One of the highlights is the bizarrely named Chillage People and their version of the Dr Who theme tune that's a must for any other Dr Who fans out there. The album is perfect for a bit of post-club chilling or relaxing to on a summer's day.

This recording of a single concert is arguably the finest disc MDG have placed in their catalogue. (…) The sound in itself needs absolutely no allowance for concert conditions - or studio for that matter - it is perfectly judged for each instrument and as an ensemble. Highly recommended as one of the best chamber discs I've ever had the privilege of hearing. SA-CD.net
