"Caravanserai" is the fourth studio album by Santana, released on October 11, 1972. It marked a major turning point in Carlos Santana's career as it was a sharp departure from his critically acclaimed first three albums. Original bass guitarist David Brown left the group in 1971 and was replaced by Doug Rauch and Tom Rutley, while Armando Peraza replaced original percussionist Michael Carabello after his departure. During this period, Santana's relationship with longtime keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie rapidly deteriorated; consequently, keyboardist Tom Coster performed on one song before replacing Rolie shortly after the album's release. Caravanserai reached #8 in the Billboard 200 chart and #6 in the R&B Albums chart in 1972.

Volume One of Delerium's Archives series includes selections from four early albums: Faces, Forms & Illusions; Morpheus; Syrophenikan; and Stone Tower. Fans will obviously be familiar with this material already, but it's nevertheless an uncovering of the band's interesting, often eerie roots. The first two albums are disquietingly spare, often relying on minimal percussion and echoing soundscapes to get their point across. Standouts include "Fragments of Fear," and the comparably upbeat, light industrial thud of "Sword." 1991's Syrophenikan vacillates between spooky navel-gazing (the Coil-ish "Shroud"), and synth-heavy, mid-tempo experimentation ("Of the Tribe"), while Archives, Vol. 1 closes with the cathedrals-collapsing-in-slow-motion dirges of Stone Tower. Highly recommended for Delerium completists.

The second volume of Delerium's Archives series includes selected tracks from the Spheres, Spheres II, and Spiritual Archives LPs. It also features a bonus track, the previously unreleased "Infra Stellar," culled from the sessions for 1998's Cryogenic Studio. 1993's Archives begins Disc One with the industrial crash and drone of "Drama," before trudging into mechanistic soundscape territory, where sounds seem to ooze from landfills, and bursts of flame light up the night sky. While not necessarily upbeat, the twittering electronic instrumentals of Spheres do have a bit more warmth than their predecessors. The material from Spheres II stays the course, adding a bit of a beat, with here-and-there percussion and some FSOL-style ambient flirtations. There are still experiments in sonic landscaping ("Dimensional Space"), but by this point Delerium seem to have shifted full-on towards electronic music.

    MP3 CBR 320kbps | Tracks: 14 | 52:31 min | 121 Mb
Style: Electronic, Ambient, Modern Classical | Label: Glacial Movements

Murcof renders a panoramic suite pairing dramatic choral vocals from the ‘Goldberg Variations’ with symphonic electronics to soundtrack Patrick Bernatchez film, ‘Lost In Time’. “In Lost in Time, two parallel narratives intertwine: e first follows a helmet-clad, faceless horse and rider adrift in an indeterminate landscape of ice and snow, quite literally lost in time and space, while the second seems to allude to a strange scientific experiment. Lost in Time plunges us into perpetual renewal, each ending leading to a new beginning.

Pianist and composer Nitai Hershkovits has been described as a ‘Genuine prodigy’ by BBC music. He is a charismatic performer with an incredibly strong voice and musical vision. His dynamic playing crosses boundaries and genres thanks to a light, elegant touch that conveys a full spectrum of deep emotions and contrasts. As a solo artist, Nitai Hershkovits’ repertoire consists mainly of original work written for piano, giving space for interpretation. Nitai started playing the clarinet at the age of twelve, only to discover his love for the piano at age fifteen. Around that time, he was first exposed to the sound of jazz giants such as Wynton Kelly and Sonny Clark. By the age of seventeen, Nitai had moved to Tel Aviv to combine regular school with private music and piano lessons under the guidance of jazz educators Amit Golan and Yuval Cohen. In 2011, Nitai joined bassist Avishai Cohen’s group. As part of Cohen’s Trio as well as of other symphonic projects, they recorded three albums together.

It’s evident from the get-go that Danny Bacher was born to perform. His humor, his delivery, his talent, his joie de vivre appear instantly and plentifully on his new album ‘Still Happy!’ - a rather odd title, considering he’s just arrived on the scene and that he’s, well, pretty happy already, it seems. Bacher honed his chops in the New York City jazz world, and he brings with him the confidence of someone who’s weathered the storm and is now better for it. His performance on the new album is seasoned and all pro, a mix of youthful vigor and finger-popping vet. He bounces from oldies and goodies to classic takes on the Great American Songbook, all the while infusing them with dazzle and style.

A shooting star of the international jazz scene, a genius guitarist demanded by the greatest (Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Sting, Chick Corea), Lionel Loueke is an extraordinary artist. His unique musical personality blends genres and influences, from traditional African rhythms to western jazz. In The Journey, his first solo album for the label Aparté, he sings, vocalises, clicks his tongue, slaps his guitar strings, draws from funk, reaches out for the most unexpected harmonics and unfolds an incredible palette of sounds, like a one-man orchestra. Surrounded by impressive guests from all horizons (Pino Palladino, Patrick Messina, Vincent Ségal, Mark Feldman, Cyro Baptista…) under the direction of maestro Robert Sadin, multiple Grammy Award winner, Loueke delivers here his most personal record. From hopeful ballads (Molika, Kába) to irresistible rhythms (Gbê, Dark Lightning), this journey has an invigorating perfume of freedom.

k.d. lang followed through on the promise of her adult contemporary changeover Ingénue with All You Can Eat. A more experimental and realized record than its predecessor, there are more daring production touches on All You Can Eat it's clear that she has been listening to contemporary pop, not just torch songs. It isn't immediately accessible the production is low-key, the melodies are gentle and subtle (although her cutesy, tongue-in-cheek song titles suggest otherwise), and lang gives a nuanced, sophisticated performance. Though it lacks a standout song like the aching "Constant Craving," All You Can Eat has a more consistent set of songs and, given time, is a more rewarding listen.
