Guardian Of The Light' is Duke's FINEST album of the 1980's bar none.It begins with the orchestrated theme "Oveture" with a high ended beat. The monsters "Light" with it's Clarke/Duke Project sound,"Fly Away" and the folkish "Soon" have a certain art jazz/rock edge that nobody has heard out of Duke in some time. Two catchy R&B songs "Born To Love You","You Are The Light" and the jazz pop of "Give Love A Chance" are three of Duke's best ballads. And of course the Dukey Stick still offers up some seriously dangerous funk in "Shane",the millitantly anti-war "Silly Fightin" and the classic "Reach Out".

    Power Metal

"Symphony Of War" appears like a soundtrack for a blockbuster history movie and will attract fans of Malmsteen or Rhapsody of Fire. The sound is influenced by classical music, filigree riffing, big choirs and mighty melodies, notwithstanding first-class Metal attacks and a well-balanced heaviness…..

    Symphonic Black/Folk Metal

Faanefjell is a Norwegian black/Folk metal act, who has recently launched their debut album entitled Trollmarsj (eng: ‘The March of the Trolls’).The album consists of ten tracks that all have clear references to traditional Norwegian black metal. Trollmarsj is also a concept album; a story of the mountain, humans, fights and wars, priests and the march of the two trolls, namely Grimtroll and Sytroll. This is definitely one of the strongest folk/black/Viking metal debuts that I’ve ever heard. Highly recommended for the fans of Týr, Svartsot, Korpiklaani, Fintroll, Sirenia…

Although it may be a bit of a simplification, on New Beginnings pianist Don Pullen sets up fairly simple structures (some of which could be grooves for Ramsey Lewis) and then, after stating the theme, tosses in playful runs that are often quite outside, essentially putting his original style from the 1960's in a slightly commercial 1980's setting. Pullen plays quite rhythmically during his more intense phrases and displays a sly sense of humor. Both bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Tony Williams get a generous amount of solo space on the trio date and they are not overshadowed by the leader's often-fanciful flights.

Rendezvous is definitely one of them, a solid effort that showcases all of Duke's immeasurable skills as a composer, arranger, producer, performer, and so on. The album does have that tinny 80's digital sound, especially in the gated drums.

"Oh Yeah" was the first single released after the release of 1977 and was their second Top 10 single, reaching number 6 in the UK singles chart. It is probably Ash's best-known song and one of the best known from the Brit-Pop period. It tells a tale of a "bitter-sweet teenage love story" and is very much a fan favourite. It's almost always somewhere in the live set too. It features backing vocals from singer Lisa Moorish.

One of the finest works of Ottmar Liebert with remarkable musical and emotional depth. The haunting beauty of his Spanish guitar is here tempered with a charming lightheartedness that was no doubt inspired by the East-Indian locale. Alternately fiery and mellow, but always beautiful. Enjoy.
