Toshiko is amazing. Her improvisations on NewYork are intertaining to say the least. On one track she actually incorperates the sounds of a baseball game into the background. Check out her big band work with Lew Tabacan.
Vida Blue was an trio fronted by Page McConnell of Phish and included Oteil Burbridge of The Allman Brothers Band and Russell Batiste of The Meters. The band originated in 2001 when McConnell attended shows by both the The Allman Brothers Band and The Meters, and approached both Burbridge and Batiste about the Vida Blue project, which they were interested in. Their second album, The Illustrated Band, released a year after the first, is backed by the Spam Allstars, a Latin Grammy-nominated, Afro-Cuban sextet.
Fanfare Samenakoa featuring street music in an original, amusing and dancing way - far from any cliche! Imagine a hot summer night, a beach, a party, many people and among them some musician. The musicians, who knew each other but never played together before, start taking out their instruments and begin to play together out of mere joy for the first time. Like magic the music fits and soon people dance, laugh and amuse themselves while amazing music seeps through the beach.
That night happened in 2003, the year, when the band Fanfare Samenakoa was born. Motivated by this great moment, the group continues to play on the streets amusing the people so much that they start dancing right away. Since March 2009 they are working on a new album, that will be released in September 2009.

Lucette Bourdin and Darrell Burgan return to Earth Mantra with their second collaborative release, an album of soothing ambient electronica entitled "Prasantih". Sometime in winter 2009-2010, Lucette and Darrell began working together on some cross-composed music, to see what sort of results might emerge from such a collaboration. Living thousands of miles apart, face to face recording was impossible. So instead they embarked upon a free-form style of composition, where each artist recorded bits of solo material called doodles, which were then shared mutually and remixed and reworked into whole new pieces. The result was a set of lovely ambient tracks that often bear little resemblance to the individual doodles that went into them.
