PITIFUL REIGN’s second full length album, “Visual Violence” is down right some of the best Thrash I’ve heard in this new Thrash revival movement. When I first caught wind of the band from a friend I wasn’t able to score their first album and had to wait for this one to be more widely released. It was worth the wait.“Visual Violence” may not be the most original release this year but every song is a kick in the teeth of great melodic Thrash Metal. Melodic riffs interchange into catchy leads and impressive soloing.

'Blue Songs' is the second album from New York based dance act Hercules And Love Affair. Drawing upon late seventies New York dance culture as on their eponymous debut album, but the troupe relocated to Denver and worked with legendary techno producer Patrick Pulsinger on this record. This effort is a halcyon collage of sound, referencing everything from Tony Humphries' Zanzibar, The Sound Factory to classic house and disco. It also features a guest collaboration with Kele Okereke. It includes the single 'My House'.

This recording is a true gem in Charlie Byrd's extensive discography. What makes it special is that there is a de-emphasis on bossa nova (there are still a few tunes), freeing up Byrd to explore other styles such as Dixieland and blues. The results are often breathtaking thanks in no small part to the excellent contributions of clarinetist Ken Peplowski and drummer/vibist Chuck Redd. The latter's vibraphone playing gives the quartet just the right amount of variety, making this a memorable and rewarding listen many times over. ~ AllMusic

Erik Truffaz is a Swiss-born French contemporary jazz trumpeter, infusing elements of hip hop, rock and roll and dance music into his compositions. He signed with the French EMI label in 1996. Truffaz gained international attention with his second album on Blue Note, The Dawn, produced together with Pat Muller, Marcello Giuliani and Mark Erbetta.
