Age 26 at the time, and on the brink of gaining major recognition in the jazz world, pianist Chick Corea is featured with a very strong trio that also includes bassist Miroslav Vitous and drummer Roy Haynes. The music includes 11 of Corea's originals, including "Matrix," "Windows," and "Samba Yantra," Thelonious Monk's "Pannonica" and the standard "My One and Only Love" and is essentially advanced hard bop with an open-minded attitude toward free jazz. Listen to how part of "Steps-What Was" has hints of Corea's future composition "Spain."

Chick Corea's regularly working band of 1982, a quintet with Steve Kujala on flute, soprano and tenor, took time off from a tour of South Africa to record six of the keyboardist's originals. The music, although sometimes electric, is generally modern mainstream with some adventurous moments. None of the newer songs (such as "Diddle Diddle" and "Twang") caught on and they were all more or less forgotten when this band broke up. However the music is still enjoyable, capturing Corea at a transitional point in his career.

Originally released in 1969, Lift Every Voice was one of the last of Andrew Hill's early Blue Note sessions, and easily one of the most unorthodox. Featuring a jazz quintet augmented by a small choir, the album brings to mind some of Steve Lacy 's work with Irene Aebi, or the vocal tracks on Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction, or in a way, even Dizzy Gillespie's 1963 album with the Double Six of Paris. The original five cuts feature Woody Shaw on trumpet, Carlos Garnett on tenor sax, Hill on piano, Richard Davis on bass, and Freddie Waits on drums. Hill was moving deeper into Blue Note's brand of soul-jazz by this point, but only he could make it sound like this. ~ AllAboutJazz

Vadrum, nickname of Italian drummer Andrea Vadrucci, has been pursuing percussion since his young days. His popularity skyrocketed in 2006 when he began posting videos of his experiments onto his YouTube channel, allowing viewers a glimpse of his drum filled interpretations of much loved tunes. The years that followed exposed him to a plethora of media, making him well known in his home country. His debut solo album was inevitable.
