In 1993 Gismonti recorded Música de Sobrevivência, an album inspired by the writings of the Brazilian poet Manoel de Barros, who reflects in his work the Brazilian duality of the cultivated Portuguese tradition and the massive illiteracy disseminated in that country, which, notwithstanding, deeply influences the official language.

Pubic Fruit is not a proper follow-up to Curve's debut full-length, instead gathering together three of the band's earlier EP releases that had only been released in the U.K. and adding the previously unavailable 12" version of "Faît Accompli." Despite the album being a compilation of sorts, it holds together quite nicely and provides a good look at the band's work up until its debut release.

The early Dog Star Man EP, released in 1989, stands up well over time (especially considering how dated electronic music can sound after a few years of evolution), and is evidence of Meat Beat Manifesto's influence on subsequent electronica movements of the '90s. Fusing Foetus' abrasively experimental industrial approach, hip-hop's sampling, and techno's breakbeats, MBM's hypnotic electronic chaos was ahead of its time.

J. S. Bach's second son, C.P.E. Bach, described the six Sonatas for Violin and Cembalo as "among the best compositions of my dear departed father", and went on to say how well they sounded and what pleasure they still gave him, although written some fifty years before. Over 300 years later these pieces still sound fresh and delightful.

Tim Too Slim Langford is the founder,guitarist, singer, songwriter of Too Slim and the Taildraggers. Although generally lumped into the blues-rock arena, Tim "Too Slim" Langford and his band fall into whatever category a combination of Tom Petty, Creedence and ZZ Top would create. Perhaps swampy Americana is closer to the trio's sound, especially on this terrific album. Slim's been at it for quite a while; nearly two decades, yielding a dozen or so releases when this disc appeared in 2007…….

The Kilborn Alley Blues Band is not a typical Chicago blues band in that they reflect the uptown rather than Southside electric tradition. Fronted by the vocalist and guitarist Andrew Duncanson and working with producer Nick Moss, the KABB have more allegiance to Paul Butterfield or John Mayall than Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf. They lean on blue-eyed soul while also working in a steady rolling manner, occasionally looking back at tradition, and adding updated political observations……
